Ellen’s 12 Days of Christmas

Every Christmas season, The Ellen DeGeneres Show does a special twelve episodes, calling it the 12 Days of Christmas. It started out a little small, but seems to get bigger and bigger every year with the giveaways that are featured. But beyond the gifts, Ellen always seems to make them very warm shows as well, to go with the holiday season.

During each of the twelve episodes, Ellen features a giveaway for every member of her studio audience, and sometimes the “Riff Raff” room as well, which includes the people that showed up to be in the audience of the show that day, but didn’t make it in as the studio filled up too quickly. It’s not just one gift either. It started out to be just a few smaller things, but in recent years, Ellen has given away major appliances, expensive jewelry, trips, iPods, etc. There seems to be no limit, and on many days the total value of all the gifts is easily above $1000.

There is usually a way for the at-home audience to enter in a drawing to receive the gifts as well by going to the website. It doesn’t seem to be started just yet, but it’s sure to within a few days. One person last year received every single giveaway from the entire twelve days. Of course, with Ellen, it was someone that was in huge need of such a gift, being very down on their luck.

To go along with the theme, there is always a special Gift Mascot that brings the giveaways out during every episode and on the twelfth day, the person inside the costume is revealed to be someone famous, such as Justin Timberline or Sean Hayes appearing as the Gingerbread Man or a snowman. Assumably, the person inside of the mascot costume for the first eleven days is someone from the staff, and on the twelfth day the secret celebrity dons the outfit, but no one knows for sure.

All of it makes for a very special time to watch the Ellen DeGeneres Show. The excitement of everyone in the audience, knowing they’re about to get a few armloads of cool gifts is certain to rub off on everyone. It starts today, and you don’t want to miss a minute of the fun, so look for the show in your local listings!

  3. Wow, somehow I missed Donna’s comment originally, but thank you Deborah for commenting in my absence. I agree there has to be doors that are waiting to be opened somewhere. I have always believed in fate and everything happening for a reason. There was a reason you both came here to read this article about Ellen. I will keep the both of you in my thoughts and prayers during this holiday season.
