Law and Order: CI (Celeb And/Or Intoxicated), Gary Collins
The jails are filling up in Los Angeles. After Kiefer Sutherland reported for a forty-eight day jail stint, now word comes that veteran actor and talk show host Gary Collins has been ordered to surrender himself in jail for a four day stint.
No one knows for sure what Gary Collins was doing that night back in October when he was driving around drunk. Maybe he was looking for his career, but he seems to have lost it long ago, having relegated himself to mostly guest stints and infomercials after acting in the film Airport and hosting Hour Magazine, The Home Show, and The Miss America Pageant. Yet, we all know who he is, and so did the cops when they handed down a D.U.I.
Collins was driving his Ford SUV when he was struck from behind by an 89-year-old man behind the wheel. The force of the collision caused Collins’ SUV to then nail two parked cars. Collins was not injured, but the 89-year-old man was taken to the hospital for unknown injuries. Although the police did not find Collins at fault, a strong smell of alcohol was found on his breath, and he was booked on suspicion of D.U.I.
After pleading no contest to the charges, the Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner demanded Collins surrender to jail by January 10th for his four day stint. Following this, he will also have to serve a four-year probationary term, pay $500 (which could be big money for him, unless the infomercial thing is working really well), perform 100 hours of community service, complete an eighteen month alcohol education program, and attend twenty-six Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
No guesses as to whether his wife, actress and former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley was by his side in the traffic incident, but if she’s stayed by his side through that career of his, I’m guessing there isn’t anything that could tear her away.
