Law and Order: CI (Celebrity And/Or Intoxicated) Pt. 2

Kiefer SutherlandIt’s only been a few days, yet our Law and Order : CI team is back enforcing the law. 24 star Kiefer Sutherland is in jail, a private jail rather, for a forty-eight day jail stint, and he’s planning his time between bars around the hiatus of his television series.

Sutherland was already on probation for a drunk driving offense in 2004, and had then pleaded no contest for misdemeanor DUI, receiving five years of probation, fifty hours of community service, and a stint in an alcohol treatment program. He followed through on the last two and was working off the five years.

The 40-year-old, who had also been nabbed in 1993 for alcohol-related reckless driving, was nailed again this September after leaving a Hollywood party at a trendy nightclub. The police pulled him over after witnessing him make an illegal U-turn, and asked him to perform a field sobriety test, which he failed. He pleaded no contest once again in October.

OtisSutherland’s current plea deal has him getting yet another five years probation, a $510 fine, which I’m sure is pocket change to him, an eighteen month stint in alcohol education classes, and weekly alcohol therapy sessions. Also receiving forty-eight days in jail, he asked for and received a cushier stint in the Glendale city jail. I’m thinking it’s the same type of digs Otis had on The Andy Griffith Show.

While Sutherland’s only other stipulation required him to complete his forty-eight days by March 30, he decided because of his day job, it was best to start the days now, miss Christmas with his family, and when the writer’s strike is over, hopefully soon, he’ll then then have this all wrapped up and taken care of. Of course, maybe he figures on it will get him out quicker to start drinking again.

Wouldn’t the 48 days in jail be like forty-eight seasons on Sutherland’s show? Just asking.
