How I Met Your Mother : So Many Rules, So Little Time

Monday night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother was called The Platinum Rule. When Ted said he had a date with his Doctor, Barney told Ted of this rule which is about the perils of dating someone that you see a lot. This was something all of Ted’s friends have experienced, so they all had advice. This story was told via different flashbacks of the different experiences of Robin, Barney, Marshall and Lily. The flashback method is something that this show does particularly well.

One of the fun parts of the flashbacks was seeing when they showed Lily’s hair when it was the original red hair color. I do miss Alyson’s red hair, although I think her brunette hair is very chic. Plus, Alyson is undeniably charming and funny – no matter her hair color. I am a fan of Alyson, dating back approximately ten years now – as I am a longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer uber-fan. On that show she played the lovable Willow Rosenbeg.

Anyway, this was the last episode completed before the writer’s strike, so you’ll have to suffice on reruns for now. But if you’re the kind of child who used to sneak around to see what presents they were going to be getting Christmas morning, perhaps I can interest you in a few spoilers for the show…

I went to Spoilerfix.com and they gave me these little gems:

  • 11/27 – “Robin and Barney are very good together,” [says HIMYM boss Craig Thomas]. “Their scenes together are great. The cool thing is, we can explore their chemistry by having the two of them go out and kind of be each other’s wingman. We know we’re going to do that.” When asked for a straight answer on the possibility of a Barney-Robin romance, Craig says: “Can’t comment on that.” Source: Kristin on E!Online
  • 10/02 – We meet Lily’s big brother later this year! Source: Kristin on E!Online
  • 09/15 – Robin’s presence should guarantee another appearance from Robin Sparkles — her ’90s Canadian teen-pop-star alter ego — and possibly a touching breakup ballad shot in black and white on a beach. [...] We’ll learn more about Barney’s sordid hippie past, plus he may land a girlfriend of his own. And all the characters will face what [Carter] Bays calls a “life-changing moment,” playing into “the ideas of this show, about destiny and free will and how little control we have over our own lives.” Source: Entertainment Weekly
  • So, should we be looking for a Robin/Barney hookup? I think we might want to prepare ourselves for it. We know Robin and Ted don’t end up together since we know that Ted is married to a woman who is Robin’s sister. I’m curious to see who they cast as Lily’s brother! *Crosses fingers* Nicholas Brendon, are you available?

    1. First episode I watched this season, and it made me wonder why I haven’t be tuning in more regularly. Probably because of public speaking, yeah…

    2. Geeez. What kind of loyalty is that!

      ps. Haaaave you met Ted?

    3. Okay, I have looked ALL OVER the Kristen E! Online page and I cannot find where the Craig Thomas interview is. If someone finds it, let me know please!
