Australia’s Next Top Model Gets Better Prizes than America’s

Other countries have embraced the Next Top Model idea, and made their own spin-off’s. From countries like Afghanistan to Turkey. Australia’s first cycle began airing in January of 2005. Their third cycle completed this past summer.

The winner was 19 year old Alice Burdeau. As the winner, Alice received these prizes: a one year contract with Priscilla’s Model Management, a Ford Fiesta XR4, a trip to New York to meet with another model booker (which is probably where she got her NY Elite Model Management contact), a contract to be the face of Napoleon Perdis for 12 months which includes an international photo shoot, and maybe best of all, an eight-paged fashion spread feature with Vogue Australia.

The Vogue campaign came out in September of 2007, but we have to wait until February of ‘08 to view her Napoleon Perdis campaign photos.

For America’s Next Top Model, cycle 9’s winner was Saleisha Stowers. As the winner, she received: a contract with CoverGirl cosmetics, a cover of Seventeen magazine, and a contract with Elite Model Management.

Now, as a teen - I grew up with Seventeen as one of my sacred text’s - so there’s no way I’m going to say it’s bad. But when it comes to fashion, if you want to be a model, I think being on the cover of Vogue is probably better than being on the cover of Seventeen. Burdeau also has the Elite Model contract. So that leaves Saleisha with only the CG contract. And this is not very much. I’ve never seen the ads the girls do, I think they’re printed in one magazine, just once.

If you were a model, which magazine would you want to be on the cover of: Vogue or Seventeen? Comment and let me know.

The first ANTM winner, Adrianne Curry recently said this on her blog: “…they are 9 seasons into this show and have yet to be successful in making a real ‘Top Model’.”

She went on to add, “Heck, maybe after [Tyra] is done righting this wrong [of recent winner, Saleisha, having an unfair advantage to winning], she could hint at the agency she placed me in to PAY me for the work I did and won through her show? Been trying to get that check since 2003.”
