American Idol – San Diego, A Few Gold Nuggets Found

In the process of losing some of the meanness on American Ido, we seem to have lost something exciting in the mix. Here’s who we have making it from the San Diego auditions:

Tatiana Ostapowych, 24, of Venice, California.
She has a pretty voice, but Simon doesn’t think she’s as good as she thinks she is.  Well, that’s a definite slam. She makes it through easily, though, even though Simon calls her obnoxious as she leaves.

Perry Cataldo, 27, Phoenix, Arizona. After the past few years cheering for single mothers, here’s a single dad. Perry is probably the most interesting of the night, as while he’s not the best singer, there’s an interesting quality there that’s hard to put your finger on.

Michael Johns, 28, of of Los Angeles. He reminds me a little of the Commitments, as Simon calls him a white soul singer, and he makes it through easily.

Samantha Musa, 20, Baldwin Park, California. She thinks Simon is hot, as does her sister. While the sister sits on Simon’s lap, Samantha auditions and makes it through. The sister votes yes to Hollywood as long as she gets to go with. They’ll both be there.

David Archuleta, 16, of Murray, Utah. He had a paralyzed vocal chord a few years back, but is recovered. While he has the makings of a bad audition, he does well enough for a 16 year old boy and makes it through.

Carly Simpson, 23, San Diego, California
. She auditioned two years ago and made it, but originally from Ireland, her visa didn’t get through on time. She makes it this time again, although Simon cautions her she doesn’t sound as good as last time.

If I’m excited over anyone tonight, it’s the single dad and the the white soul singer. The others are good, but nothing that we’ll even remember in one week.
