Matthew Fox says Jack Could Still Die on Lost

In the picture above you see Matthew Fox of Lost posing in the latest metrosexual couture. Maybe I don’t even have a problem with the clothes, maybe I just have a problem with the way the wind machine — er, sorry, I mean ‘natural wind from the island setting’ is casually blowing his shirt up like that. I know Fox isn’t heavy, but I also could swear that someone Photoshopped him to be thinner than he is.

Okay, so there’s another problem in this picture, if you haven’t noticed. In attempt for casual glamor, we’ve got Black Beauty (the horse - do you never read books?) running to the side. I don’t know how many horses are on beaches, and it’s very possible that this is a reference to the black horse that Kate saw on Lost. But I sort of doubt it. Jack (Fox) and Kate may be close, but Jack didn’t have a huge connection to the horse. So…is the horse supposed to be glamorous? Why does this picture look like a cheesy music video that Nick Lachey would call “brilliant”?

Well, it doesn’t matter. It’s just odd. This is a picture that accompanies an Entertainment Weekly story about Matthew Fox. I’m about to talk about major spoilers for what happened in the season finale of Lost last season, so uh, be warned! (Plus one picture from 4×01, but it isn’t very spoilery.)

They all died.

It was horrible!

I’m kidding. But someone did die - Charlie. It was really sad. I never thought they’d axe him. That’s probably why they did it. Someone else died, but we don’t know who yet, we only saw their coffin. And it’s someone that Jack said wasn’t a friend. Yet he still cared. I personally think it was Locke. Which would mean, damn - why are they killing off all of the good characters?!

Unless you’ve been on an island yourself, then you know that our Losties got off the island. Which I don’t think anyone suspected was going to happen anytime soon. And let’s face it, that makes for good TV. That and anytime a squirrel drives a boat.

Fox told EW that, “I think the show’s going to be better in its last three seasons than it was in the first three… There’s going to be some huge mind-blowing s—.” I want to believe him, but it’s in his best interest to make people want to watch the show, so I’d rather judge for myself. But consider these fragile hopes raised.

I hate to say this, but from reading the interview, I’m a tiny bit less excited about season four. Which I’m guessing wasn’t the intent.

Why do I feel that way? Well, Fox justified why Jack said his father was alive (he was drunk) . But Fox did confirm that they are covering something up, since leaving the island - so that will be fun to discover.

I’m annoyed by this quote by Fox: ”The beautiful thing about Lost is that…I get all these new things to do with [Jack]. It’s not like playing Charlie Salinger on Party of Five. It was tough to play that same character for six years because I don’t think I got to evolve that character and play new elements of him.” That’s sort of, well, something that lots of people would debate. I’ve heard people say that the only way a TV show really works is if the main characters never really do change. But I think that TV characters, especially Charlie Salinger (Party of Five fan, here!) did change!

If you look at him in the first season and see his laid back slacker personality and how he can’t commit and flakes on things, and then look at where he ended up - married with a kid and a steady job that he likes after several jobs he hated, I think that shows growth. You don’t just snap your fingers and end up there. Not even in TV land.

My favorite quote from the article is also one that makes me giggle cause I think Fox has a crush on his TV alter ego:

“When Jack Shephard goes, ”We have to go back,” that means he’s f—ing going back. And if there’s 48 episodes [left], you know that Jack is going back on that island for a certain section of episodes. That means that he could die.” - Matthew Fox

The first episode of season four will be titled “The Beginning of the End” and will be a Hurley-centered episode. The fourth is Kate-centric, yay. And the eighth is for Michael, which should be interesting since he’s been off the show for a bit.
Until next time,

  1. “The fourth is Kate-centric, yay.”

Yay? Those are consistently the WORST episodes of Lost. It’s like they’re not even trying to make her look like LESS of a dumbshit cause everyone wants to do her anyway.

Still pumped for Lost. I don’t really let interviews and the hype affect my excitement one way or the other. It’s cool though that the leading actor loves the show so much. A lot of the times, you see actors on a TV show drone on and you can tell they don’t even watch it. Matthew Fox seems to be really into it, which is a good sign. As long as the people involved love the show, it means they make a serious effort to entertain us.

  2. You know, in that first picture you can tell the island setting was photoshopped around him. Or he was photoshopped onto it. There’s a very faint line around him, and his feet don’t quite touch the sand right.

I’ve never watch an episode of Lost, and I’m afraid to start now because I’d have no idea what’s going on. Aren’t they dead and it’s purgatory or something like that? (Heard that once…)

  3. Sasha - aw, come on, don’t rain on my parade :P I like Kate and the Kate episodes! Either way, I agree - I’m glad that Matthew Fox really likes the show. Cause I don’t wanna watch a show that the people on it don’t even want to watch/support, you know?

Crystal - Well, if you want to start watching Lost, Thursday night might be the best time. I mean, you’ll lose three years of backstory, but there’s nothing else on TV right now, so… Anyway, I think in my previous post of Lost I posted a video that literally sums up all three seasons in like, 7 minutes.

Basically, they were on a plane. The plane crashed. They were presumed dead, but they were not. In a huge shocker, they were rescued in the season three finale. They’re off the island, but we know that Jack says they have to go back - who knows why?! The island was used to conduct experiments at some point.

  4. Hey, so maybe the picture of Matthew wasn’t really photoshoped because after watching last night’s premiere I conlude that he deeefinitely lost some weight.

Poor Jack, it must be all that stress from being emo and being a leader ))heh.
I don’t remember, do you like Jack a lot or are you in-between hehe))) One thing I can’t deny, he did look pretty hot yesterday ))

  5. I sway both ways. I’ve been leaning towards Jate. :X

Jack probably ran out of polar bears to eat. lmao.
