So You Want to Have Jewelry Like Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha?

I was just sitting here, doing some late night googling (boy does that sound dirty) while a Sex and the City rerun played on the TV next to me. A scene I always take note of came on: Carrie on the phone with a sleeping mask pushed up onto her forehead. The sleeping mask in question is black silk, and it has small crystals that spell out ‘dream’ on it. But why is this relevant, why do I care? Because I always feel a small rush when I see something that I own on a TV character that I love.

I have no idea if my sleepmask is made by the same manufacturer - and it doesn’t really matter. I just think it’s cool that I have it. What’s more - I like that I bought it before I saw this episode. Small self-esteem boosts by way of feeling fashionable are underrated! And to be given a SATC style seal of approval on anything is pretty great, as they (almost) always had great overall style. Of course, the idea of owning something your favorite TV character owns is nothing new. You can purchase the famous “Carrie” necklace at several different places online. Although, I think that trend is very much over (but if we don’t see her wearing the necklace in the SATC movie I would be surprised).

Catch up on the series before the movie comes out on the big screen. Emitations.com has another Carrie Bradshaw piece of jewelry in the horseshoe necklace that she wore. Again, this is another trend that has come and gone. (Sarah Michelle Gellar also wore a sparkly horseshoe necklace much like this as Buffy in season six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.) The website also has the classically pretty bow necklace that Charlotte once sported. I would say that’s something cute to consider buying, but Paris Hilton once wore is so it may be tainted for all eternity!

But why not forget imitation altogether? The costume designer on SATC was known for finding some great unique pieces to compliment the different women’s personalities. Remember that pretzel necklace that Carrie wore?

Well, here’s some good news, you don’t have to fork out huge bucks to find unique pieces.

I’m a big fan of the website Etsy.com. Acting as a personal shopper, I’m going to take you through a little guided tour of jewelry that I could imagine the different characters loving.

Valentine’s Day is coming up and while a heart would be a classic choice for Charlotte, when I found a collection of glass heart pendants with swirled colors, I knew I was looking at something Carrie would like. The fact that there are so many variations leads me to believe that she’d buy several of these, alternating them as she did when she wore the flower broaches. These are offered by the seller Fyrsmith, who is a glass-blower in Alaska. Pretty neat, huh?

Yellow is a big new color for spring/summer 08 so I bet you that Carrie would pick up one of the pendants with yellow, such as the one pictured on the left.

Miranda wears earrings, even though Cynthia Nixon doesn’t have her ears pierced (they had her wear clip-on earrings). But maybe you do. I love green on Miranda. Green looks great with her red hair, and green also reminds me of modern, simple, elegance - also very Miranda. So, small earrings with green gemstones would be great. I found this pair from the seller Alyson1234. She actually writes that these earrings would be good for, “Someone who likes to have a little shine of glamour at the ears, but doesn’t go overboard.” Sound like Miranda? The entire shop is great.

Samantha is the character I have the least in common with (what…you’re surprised?), but I did know what to look for - bold jewelry! Samantha likes big things (ahem). The shop NicholasandFelice has some big pendants that I can see her wearing. I like the cobalt blue one for Samantha because blue is another big color for 08, and she is fashion-forward. They have a few of these, including a peach one. The peach one I would see more on Carrie, though.

I hit a Charlotte-filled goldmine when I found the Miabeads shop on Etsy. We’re talking about Victorian elegance with delicate details: lockets, hearts, pearls, lace. I really think the Pearl Bauble earrings are something that Charlotte would pick. But there’s lots of things in this shop that I think Charlotte would like. The Coin Pearl Swirl (so fun to say!) earrings and the Bella earrings, especially.
