American Idol – McPhee Latest, Dumped But Married

The last few months for Katherine McPhee have been the “good news or bad news” type, and it appears she wanted the good news last. The runner-up on American Idol just year a half ago to Taylor Hicks, recently she was dumped by American Idol’s record label, but she also married her longtime beau.
Around the same time that Hicks and fellow past winner Ruben Studdard were being dumped by J Records, McPhee was dumped by her label, RCA. Both labels are part of the parent company, Sony/BMG. It was understandable, however, that she was let go, as she only sold 350,000 copies of her first album. For the money that is dropped on American Idol the show, and the artists signed in the number one and number two spots, this simply wasn’t good enough. Of course, like with Hicks and Studdard, there are many other things that went into it other than album sales, with many people to blame all around, and many sides to the story.
Yet, things are suddenly looking up for McPhee as she was married Saturday to her longtime boyfriend, Nick Cokas, an actor and producer, and twenty years older. The two met in 2005 and grew even closer after her time on American Idol. She has referred to him as the love of her life, yet also said once she considered herself available until she had a ring on her finger and then it would be for good, so apparently she’s finally off the market.
Maybe Cokas, who has worked with Madonna, could be good for McPhee’s career. She’s already spreading her wings on the acting circuit, appearing in the upcoming I Know What Boys Like as a pregnant hippie. She didn’t know what the American public liked as far as music, but I’m guessing the attractive brunette will get it right more often than wrong from hereon on out.
