Reactions to “Confirmed Dead”

In this episode of Lost, entitled Confirmed Dead, some new characters were introduced as people from Naomi’s team. But the islanders are constantly forced to wonder if the team is there to save them, or for some other devious reason. (I vote for the devious reason.) The episode was written by Drew Goddard and Brian K. Vaughan. It was directed by Stephen Williams.

Below is my commentary, which I wrote in an ongoing manner as the show aired so I could post it right away. Cause I love you guys, man.

One of the first scenes we see is of a guy is crying and he says he doesn’t know why. Male PMS? It happens!

Jack and Kate are in the rain, and oh man why can’t they just make out? I know the Skater’s (Sawyer/Kate shippers) won’t like me saying that, but when it’s pouring down rain my instinct is to make out. It’s just an impulse. No one ever complains.

Okay, Locke likes to stand in rain. Got it. He wants to find the cabin that Jacob (the invisible entity) is at. Sounds like a plan to me. Both Locke and Ben are intrigued by Hurley accidentally revealing he might know something about the cabin.

Juliet seems sane as she talks about Ben to Sayid. I don’t want to like her, and yet I might start liking her anyway.

Okay, this one guy who parachuted down to save the islanders is really suspicious. His name is Daniel (Jeremy Davies). Jack and Kate wear their suspicious!faces well.

We find that Locke knew not to trust Naomi because of Walt - but Walt’s older ghost version. He saw Walt after Ben shot him. Then he reveals that Ben shot him in the kidney’s - and the bullet went right through him. I wonder if Ben purposefully shot Locke where he knew he didn’t have a kidney, or if we’re dealing with a crazy coincidence.

Another one of the parachuter’s seems to know that Naomi is dead, and he says Kate killed her. This guy is named Miles, played by Ken Leung. I wonder if he thinks this because Kate is a known fugitive? After the commercials I learned that isn’t the case. Apparently Naomi used a code phrase on the walkie before she died, referencing a sister she didn’t have. That’s how her friends knew she was dead.

This new character, Miles, is some sort of ghost hunter. That’s new. Unless Jacob is a ghost?
Ben plays on Sawyer’s insecurity of having to compete with Jack, for Kate. Well, we already know Ben is mean and manipulative. Although Sawyer’s reaction shows us that even though he didn’t go with Kate and Jack, he still really cares for Kate. Well, I guess we sorta coulda guessed that, too.

In a flashback, a blonde woman named Charlotte (Rebecca Mader) found polar bears in the desert? I smell a trend! And that’s the symbol for the Dharma Initiative they found on the polar bear bones. Definitely some sort of clue.

We see that Charlotte, in present day, is one of the parachuters that’s now on the island. Locke’s ‘team’ finds her. And I’m sure they won’t trust her. But she cares about polar bears, what’s not to trust?!

Time to run around the jungle! They thought they found Charlotte, but her um…beeper locating thingy was put on Vincent (the dog). The ‘beeper locating thingy’ is the official name, by the way.

Another character, Frank (Jeff Fahey), is introduced. The guy who was supposed to be piloting Oceanic 815 the day it went down. Now he is obsessed with the conspiracy, and he also climbs up cliffs only to be faced with cows. Cool. “I saw a cow.” - Frank

You know what else is cool? Flare gunnage.

Less cool is that Ben just shot Charlotte! But I’m gonna have to go back to ‘cool’ because she’s not dead. Is she wearing Kevlar?

We then learned that the helicopter didn’t actually crash.

Everyone apparently really did think that all of Oceanic 815’s passengers were dead. Boy, they must feel dumb now!

In a flashback, we see that Naomi was the devious one, and the four other people on her team are the less-dangerous ones. They’re the drunk, head case, anthropology person, and nut. Or something like that. They sound like a fun crowd to me.
Upon learning that Juliet is a native to the island, Miles holds up a picture of Ben. That’s why they’re here.

Ben!

Locke asks Ben what the monster is. Yes! Ben claims not to know. But he knows know Charlotte’s full name. And a lot about her.

Ben says he has a mole on their boat, and well - a lot of shit is about to go down. Guess we’ll have to turn in next week. I’ll be waiting.

Until later,

Jessica for Sofachip
