Stealing Hearts and Kissing Poodles
That’s what James Marsters is doing now. Or at least his new character is. (Or wants to do.)
Marsters played a platinum-haired vampire on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (where he first won me over, I can’t seem to resist sexy vampires*), and now he’s playing a brunette Time Agent (read: thief) on Torchwood.
Torchwood is a spin-off of the BBC show Doctor Who. It airs on BBC America and BBC Two. It is currently in its second season. That means you can catch up. Yay! (Under the jump I’ve put links for the DVDs.)
Marsters plays Captain John Hart. Tvguide.com recently had an interview with James about this role. He told TVguide that Torchwood is, “… a funny, subversive show like Buffy. I feel very much at home.”
There is also this gem of a quote:
“My character is way beyond bisexual. Spike was a romantic; this guy would do anything that moved. I cast a lustful glance at a poodle!”
This leads me to my new wish to become a poodle. They get to wear cute collars and stuff, right? Wait, now you’re thinking of bondage, aren’t you? Mind out of the gutter, we’re still talking about poodles, here! And if you aren’t a pansexual Time Agent with a British accent (PTAWBA), then you should…well, become one.
Tips for becoming a PTAWBA:
- Be open to kissing anything that is alive and has a mouth. Invest in some lip plumping gloss for the perfect pout. Buy a ‘Yay Zoosexuality!’ bumpersticker.
- Learn and perfect a British accent. Easy, right? For help, watch My Fair Lady 30 times.
- Develop a sexy swagger. This is crucial.
- Build a dangerous reputation and assemble a dirty past full of villainous deeds.
- Kill someone for their cool sword. Bonus points if you do this in Korea, or one-handed. (John killed someone in Korea for their snakeskin sword.)
James also said that a Spike (his character on Buffy) spin-off is not out of the question. Yes! I should deploy mature hesitation and accept this as only a slight hope, instead I have decided to be overjoyed.
Until next time,
Jessica

*With the exception that I’m not a fan of the character of Mick St. John, the handsome vampire from Moonlight. I can’t get over how much I don’t like the show. I really tried to like it, especially for my Jason Dohring fix. Kristen Bell is now a superhero, and Jason’s a vampire. But I liked them much better when she was a sassy detective, and he was a jerk with a trust fund. Sigh. (For those not catching all the totally!veiled references, Kristen is on Heroes now - unless they killed her off, and Kristin and Jason were both on Veronica Mars.)
I know, I’m like a rubix cube of awesomeness. What show will I reference next? Perhaps 1984’s Who’s the Boss?

I’m really thinking I’ll have to get the first season. I saw one of the episodes with James Marsters and thought it was pretty cool and I’m looking for a good series to get into now that a bunch won’t be back until fall, probably. :p Thanks for the heads up!

I love James so much-it was interesting seeing him in this part, especially since I could pull out the hints of Spike.
“No blondes, eh? I dig blondes.”
And I hope that they really do create a Spike Spin-off.

Heya Amanda and Crystal
Amanda, if you plan to buy the DVDs via Amazon, you should use our link. Just click the DVD cover you want. I know what you mean about wanting a new series to get into while nothing else is around.
Crystal, you saw this sexiness? Jealousy is me! Unrelated: I never find blonds hot, but I of course did like James blond.

It was soooo terrific. I saw it and taped it to watch it again! And James as platinum was always the best.
But it was funny when he asked about blondes in the show. Shout out to Buffy! hehe
