Angel Acevedo is Delta
I’ve written previously about We Need Girlfriends. So, if you haven’t read that yet, allow me to send you: to that piece, first. After reading it, you may be craving more about WNG. And I don’t blame you. That’s why I’ve used my psychic powers to predict those needs and arranged for some special treats for you. I know, I know, I didn’t have to get you anything for Valentine’s day, but I wanted to.
When I saw the three guys who are behind Ragtag Productions in a dark alley – I decided to corner them and then lure them out with Snickers bars. Once they were lulled into sweet, sweet, sugary intoxication, I made them answer questions about the WNG show, Saved by the Bell, and romantic movies. The New York Times recently wrote about these guys, but they didn’t ask them anything about seaweed. (Game on, NY Times. Game on. )
Angel Acevedo is 1/3 of the Ragtag team. In the Angel Acevedo interview installment (I’m using the alphabet for the posting order – I’m creative) I asked him about his impressive DVD collection, best times for napping and filming, and I pulled out a fancy French term. The first five questions were asked separately to each guy. The last ones are tailored to the individual in question.
You can look on Sofachip for upcoming interview segments with Ragtag members Steven Tsapelas and Brian Amyot, as well as Evan Bass who plays Rod on WNG.
Let’s go!
Key: J = Jessica (me), A = Angel
J: How are you preparing for bringing We Need Girlfriends to CBS? Does it involve doing daily push-ups and eating seaweed while meditating?
A: Well Evan (Rod) and I hit the gym three times a week. Steve and I will play Bond on GameCube whereupon I destroy his ass every time. But Steve, Brian, and I have been watching a lot of CBS programming and pilots to get our minds ready for post-strike writing.
J: For the TV show, will you still be using some MySpace bands for music?
A: I hope so. I think it’s a great idea to use music from up and coming bands and expose them to new audiences.
J: Since you guys love movies, and Valentine’s Day is here, can you tell us your idea of a romantic movie?
A: My idea of a romantic movie is whatever the girlfriend wants to watch. For example, she wants to see Definitely, Maybe with Ryan Reynolds on Valentine’s Day. It’s a romantic chick flick, she’ll love it. And you know what, secretly, I want to see that movie too. Ryan Reynolds is the man.
J: Bring It On was quoted on WNG, what other chick flick movies will you admit to having watched? Do you have rules or guidelines for watching these types of movies?
A: I never considered Bring It On to be a chick flick. There may be some chick flick elements (the romance stuff), but I don’t think it falls under the chick flick category. Next question!
J: How influential has Saved by the Bell been on your lives? What was your favorite couple? Do you agree that Zach dating Stacey Carosi (played by Leah Remini) at the beach resort was stupid?
A: Zach dating a girl was never stupid. He dated and/or got with all the girls (Kelly, Lisa, Jessie, Tori, Stacey) and then some. He was the original preppy pimp.
( Now for the individually-tailored questions )
J: Would it be correct to say that in WNG you sometimes use the cinéma-vérité technique? If so, what are the reasons that you decided to do that, and how do you think it helps the show? If no, are there any film techniques with neat French terms that you guys use?
A: You are correct. The show has relied on an extensive use of hand-held camera work to make it feel more real. Steve writes these great realistic characters with authentic quirky dialogue that it only helps that the visuals complement that. Also, we’re on a no budget, no time production schedule, so shooting hand-held helps us move faster. Another French term that I like to use is Ménage à trois, though I don’t think it is necessarily a film term.
J: For the apartment of Rod, Tom, and Henry – is that a set, or is that one of your apartments?
A: I wish it were a set, because I hate shooting in real bathrooms. It’s so crammed in there. But the apartment belongs to Brian and me.
J: If you had to guess, how many DVDs do you think you own?
A: No need to guess. 386 of those DVDs you’ve seen on screen are mine. The rest (not nearly as much) are Brian’s.
J: You may know that David Boreanaz played the character of Angel (a vampire) on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the series, do you think you could take him? Why or why not?
A: I’m gonna add “in the American Gladiators’ Eliminator” to your question, and say yes, I could. I’ve been training my whole life to do the Eliminator and I know can destroy David B. in the event. Hands down. And if he cheats, I’ll stake him in his heart.
J: In the WNG segment Romance Tips with Rod he books a flight on Delta Air Lines, was this on purpose because he likes the phrase Delta? (If yes, was it a decision Rod made consciously or subconsciously?)
A: I think it was. I forget. But it’s Delta right?
J: What is your favorite time of day to shoot a scene outside and get good natural light? Does it interfere with good nap times?
A: Hmmm, the best times are b/t 2 – 4 (during the Fall), the light isn’t straight above which causes harsh shadows on the faces. Those times can interfere with good nap times, but that’s why in my contract I am supplied with unlimited Red Bull on set.
