Brian Amyot is an Uno Champion
Today I am bringing you the second installment of our exclusive Sofachip interviews with the Ragtag Productions team. This installment features Brian Amyot. The first grouping of questions were asked to each guy on the team. Then there are questions that are tailored to Brian, specifically. If you’ve been reading these interviews I think you’ll notice what I did about the first questions. They all have a way of answering the questions that shows the unique personality that they have and have incorporated into We Need Girlfriends.
People always tell you to be yourself, but it doesn’t always mean you’ll get a second date, a call back, or the last bagel. In this case, it’s led to a growing legion of loyal fans, and a very possible TV show deal. This has me seriously reconsidering whether or not to keep using a fake English accent.
Brian has a envy-inducing last name. Now, so do the other two members of Ragtag Productions. Seriously. But I really like ‘Amyot’! You must say it like A-Me-Ot. I have a sister named Amy, so I just remember it like Amy ought (to return my necklace, shoes, and books - what a rotten stealer).
I asked Brian about New York City, UNO, and if he’s seen every Jaws movie. And you’ll definitely want to see what startling thing he had to say about Saved by the Bell: The College Years.
Key: J = Jessica (me), B = Brian
J: How are you preparing for bringing We Need Girlfriends to CBS? Does it involve doing daily push-ups and eating seaweed while meditating? (This question was asked before the strike ended.)
B: Well, at the current moment, we are on strike. Therefore, we can’t work on the show. But all this time off has given lots of time to work out, so I have been doing daily push-ups.
J: For the TV show, will you still be using some MySpace bands for music?
B: That is not something that has been discussed yet, but we’ve really been lucky to find some amazing artists on MySpace and its been mutually beneficial to use their music. I hope we still have an opportunity to do something like that.
J: Since you guys love movies, and Valentine’s Day (was) here, can you tell us your idea of a romantic movie?
B: I’m a bit of a traditionalist. I like the classics, but I like it when everything doesn’t come up roses at the end. It doesn’t get much better than Casablanca for that.
J: Bring It On was quoted on WNG, what other chick flick movies will you admit to having watched? Do you have rules or guidelines for watching these types of movies?
B: I willing to give a lot of movies a chance. Bring It On is actually a very well directed film. I don’t have a problem with romantic comedies, just a lot of them are not made well and get repetitive. I can’t really watch anything with Kate Hudson, my eyes would just reject the images, as if my body were fighting off some disease.
J: How influential has Saved by the Bell been on your lives? What was your favorite couple? Do you agree that Zach dating Stacey Carosi (played by Leah Remini) at the beach resort was stupid?
B: Saved by the Bell really shaped my childhood, I really felt like I had to watch it. I always preferred the classic Zach and Kelly romance. I didn’t love nor hate the beach resort episodes. However, I am willing to admit, that I like The College Years, I think they are just as good as the original series.
( Now for the individually-tailored questions )
J: I read that you once wanted to be a tour guide for the Jaws ride at Universal Studios in Orlando. Have you seen every Jaws movie?
B: I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jaws: The Revenge (aka Jaws 4) all the way through. I’ve seen bits and pieces on TV, but even Michael Caine can’t save it. Jaws 3-D is probably one of the more ridiculous cinema experiences ever. But Jaws is nothing short of amazing, and the ride at Universal Studios is awesome. I would be so good at that job.
J: Growing up, did you have lots of movie posters on the wall of your bedroom? (If so, what movie posters were they?)
B: Honestly, I had more sports posters. I had a lot of Yankees and Don Mattingly memorabilia. But then, in anticipation of Star Wars Episode I, I began to adorn my walls with Star Wars stuff. In fact, my room at my parent’s house is still stuck in the time capsule that was the Episode I-era because I moved out shortly after it and my parents never felt the need to redecorate.
J: If the Cloverfield monster had really wrecked New York City and you had to shoot the series somewhere else, where would you want to shoot it?
B: I would really hope that the monster never makes it to Queens so we could still call Astoria our home. But if I was forced to leave New York City, I think we’d shoot it in Vancouver, Canada, just because I always wanted to go there.
J: Speaking of that, can you tell us if the show will still be shot in NYC?
B: Again, that’s something that hasn’t been decided yet, but I’d certainly love it to be shot in NYC!
J: What was one of the most difficult tasks you personally faced during the making of WNG?
B: Releasing a new episode every month. A lot of people think a month is a lot of time, but when you are casting, shooting, editing and finding music the time flies by. Also, making WNG was not our ‘job”. Steve, Angel and I all had full time jobs which took up 40 plus hours a week. So the task was daunting. But I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
J: In terms of games, how does UNO compare to Jenga? I heard that you and Angel fight to be the champion of Jenga, who’s really better at it? (I asked this question to all three guys because it turned out that it was Steven/Angel who had the feud.)
B: Angel and I don’t fight with each other over games very much. Steve and Angel do constantly, and I usually have to mediate the aftermath. I’ll admit that I’m not the best Jenga player in the world. Steve and Angel will both say they are the best. I prefer UNO actually. And you won’t hear me use this phrase much, but in the words of Rod, I’m the bomb at UNO.
Do I smell a challenge?
