Rashida Jones is Returning to The Office - Simply Forgot her Paper Clips? Probably Not
This is a supremely weird time for me to talk about Rashida Jones because she is/was (see below) Karen on The Office. The reason for that is because just today I finished season two of The Office, and I am in such a Jim/Pam (Jam!) mindset. And well, their love is so squee-inducing I don’t know what to do with myself. Knowing what Karen does in the third season I was fully prepared to dislike the character. (I’ve seen a handful of episodes past season two, but not all, and certainly not enough! I am ready to see them all.) And yet, I don’t think I will. And it turns out, that’s how fans who aren’t criminally behind in their TV watching have felt.
Some fun news is that it was said by E!’s Kristin Dos Santos that Rashida will be returning to The Office this season. New episodes will begin airing on April 10th. She will be in at least one episode. UPDATE: She may or may not be in new episodes. If she does, will it be for drama, intrigue, karaoke? I don’t know!

Rashida seems undeniably cool. She talks about the Jim/Karen/Pam love triangle with ease, seemingly surprised that not everyone hated her for getting between our beloved Jam! Of course, some fans were not so nice. (Tsk, tsk!)
In late February she told TV guide, “…I did get drunk girls going, ‘Pam is better!’ And if you seek it out on the internet - which I did - you will find something terrible about yourself! One chat-room quote I found read ‘Despite my overwhelming jealousy of Rashida Jones and my general dislike of Karen, I have to say the actress is pretty cool.’ See? Look how many stipulations I had to make it through for that person to like me!”
But we do like her! Also in February, she talked with Ok! Magazine. I’m going to include three of the questions they asked, which are about The Office/John Krasinkski (her ex-boyfriend). Here we go:
Your Office storyline might have been your worst dating experience.
That’s true – being emotionally and psychologically cheated on, and then being dumped in front of all of America! I actually had a ton of anxiety about Karen coming between Jim and Pam before the show aired, that I was going to get threatened or egged, people so wanted them together. There were a few supporters who felt like even though they wanted to dislike Karen, they couldn’t. The fact that my character elicited so much emotion from fans in a physical way, that’s flattering too. But I did get yelled at on the street!
You dated your co-star John Krasinski. Are you still close?
He’s still a great friend. It’s not very often you can work with an ex-boyfriend so clearly. That’s a huge testament of what a great person he is.
He recently directed you in a movie.
It’s called Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and it’s about what every woman knows about men but doesn’t want to admit to herself. It’s twisted but good.
In Lucky Magazine there is a page that features Rashida Jones and Amanda Wilcox who are going to be launching their clothing line, LaLoo, this spring. The clothing line will be green-friendly, emphasizing items that are as comfortable as your favorite T-shirt. I could certainly use an upgrade on my favorite T-shirt considering the age of it. It’s possible there is a Disney character on it. Ahem.
Edit: To clarify further: In January Jenna Fisher told the celebrity MySpace channel (http://celebrity.myspace.com) that Rashida was coming back, “…before the end of the season, but they didn’t tell me why. I’d love to know!”
In late February E!’s Kristin Dos Santos said this would still happen. But it seems like Rashida was scheduled to appear in at least two episodes, but post-strike - it’s only one. Rashida was probably in a Christmas episode that was left out.
The NY times had this quote from Greg Daniels: “The Office” had a script ready to shoot the week the strike began, and that will be the first one the show produces. A second script was going to be the Christmas show. “We’re going to throw that one out,” Mr. Daniels said.
Is it possible that they won’t carry on with this plan for Rashida to return? Yes. But signs are still pointing that she will. Time will tell.
Until later,
Jessica Rae
