Ben is Creepy! Reactions to Lost : 4×06 The Other Woman

The sixth episode of the fourth season of Lost aired yesterday night. It was called The Other Woman and it was a Juliet-centric episode. What do we have to discuss? Ben being way more creepy than usual! Smoochies! Ben likes bondage! Goodwin! Hero complexes!

The episode started in a way that was supposed to fake visitors into thinking it was a flashforward, of Juliet being saved off the island. This would say she was one of the Oceanic Six. However, I knew something was off - she had really poofy hair. This was a huge clue! Why? Because it’s a dated look, and for poof like that you’d need a very humid atmosphere, like say, an island in the South Pacific. Know any of those? Hmmm.

Okay, so even though I was already five steps ahead (not) I still watched as they tried to fool us.  Juliet was meeting with a therapist (Harper). We learned she didn’t want to be there. She said she didn’t like being treated like a celebrity. Which is exactly how we’ve learned the Oceanic Six have been treated.

But then we learned the reveal that this was a flashback to when Juliet first came to the island. Juliet commented about how she’d only be on the island for six months. I sort of feel bad for her.  I think this is a good point for the show to re-emphasize for this particular episode, how from the very start Ben was deceiving Juliet.

Then we went back to present day, which isn’t present day - so uh, to clarify, I mean 2004 on the island. When Jack had made it seem like Charlotte and Daniel were friends, Jin didn’t think it was important to mention when they trekked off into the jungle. So, then off into the jungle Jack and Juliet went. It rained, because the island likes to rain whenever people have to search for someone. Is the island psychic? Yay!

Anyway, Juliet got separated and her therapist was there. The therapist said that Ben sent her and that Ben wants Juliet to kill Charlotte and Daniel. When Juliet questioned how Ben could be issuing orders, she was told that Ben was exactly where he wants to be. This is clear evidence that Ben likes bondage (cause he was chained up)!

Jack finds Juliet, and Juliet says they need to go to The Tempest which is an electrical station that powers the island. How the frak does Juliet know that’s where they’re going? Jack pulls Juliet to him and says, “TELL ME UR SEKRITS” (translation: tell me your secrets).  Juliet says, “HAAAALLLPP me”. Jack’s hero complex goes into full gear.

We saw Charlotte and Daniel with a map of the island. Where’d they get that? Are they selling them on the giftshop? They run into Kate. Charlotte ends up knocking Kate over the head. Pesky Kate!

Back to Jack and Juliet, Juliet says, “It’s very stressful being an other, Jack.”  Then she hinted that she had a bad, evol (evil) past that Jack wouldn’t like. What did she do? Kill someone? Well hell, Kate killed someone and Jack still loves her! What could Juliet have done that was so bad?

The answer turns out to be that she slept with Goodwin, who was her therapist’s husband. Problems abounded because Ben had a huge crush on Juliet and wanted to take her to prom! Juliet didn’t end the relationship with Goodwin. So… Juliet has always been the other woman. Geez!

Ben sent Goodwin away to be with the talies from Oceanic 815. Then he was killed and Ben decided that just telling Juliet wouldn’t be mean enough, he took her to his corpse. It was then that Ben thought was the perfect romantic time to tell Juliet he loved her that he owned her. He said, “You’re mine.” So, now I think Ben hates Jack a lot more than we even realized.

Juliet is in an abusive relationship with Ben. She believes he’s all powerful, that he will always win, and he’ll take everything away from her. Even after all this, she was ready to kill for him. That’s twisted. How can she be so loyal?

Juliet was annoyed when her and Jack ran into Kate, bleeding from the head in the jungle. It got into the way of her killing plans. Oh Juliet, I hate when that happens!
Juliet had to make a quick decision, should she trust the strangers or Ben? Strangers or Ben?  Strangers win! She decided not to kill Charlotte and Daniel.

While Kate conveniently went inside The Tempest, Jack and Juliet kissed. Kissing Jack has to inspire confidence, eh?

Ben and Locke talked and Ben told Locke who ‘his man on the boat’ is. But we didn’t get to see or hear, so that’s cheating. Although, it’s probably Michael. I’m kind of annoyed by the Ben/Locke power struggle. When will they thumb wrestle and be done with it?

Until later,

Jessica Rae
