Michael is Back. Reactions to Lost : 4×08 Meet Kevin Johnson

The sixth episode of the fourth season of Lost aired yesterday night. It was called Meet Kevin Johnson and it was a Michael-centric episode. What do we have to discuss? Libby! Michael! Walt! Tom! I’m exhausted already.

What we learned last night is that Michael is working for Ben. Sayid was angry to hear this, but we know that in the ‘future’ he, too, will be working for Ben. Ben must be trained in the art of seduction, or hypnotism, or something. He’s really great as a cult leader. Geez. Ben has a serious Howard Hughes complex with wanting to be left alone.

One of the first things Michael said in the episode was, “I’m here to die.” Pretty dramatic. And that was just five minutes into the show. Way to get this party started! On a more serious note…I was WTF’ing my way through that. Michael went to so much trouble to get off the island (with his son, Walt) and now he’s coming back to die? Explain that!

Well, they did. But it seemed a little…not as cool as I thought it would be.

Apparently, Michael told Walt what he’d done to save them, and Walt couldn’t really forgive him. Michael and Walt use aliases and don’t tell anyone but Michael’s Mom that they’re back. She’s less than understanding. Walt doesn’t even want to talk to his Dad anymore, since he’s all kill-y. Michael rescued his son, but at the price of wanting to die. He keeps trying to kill himself. He tried to crash is car, but it didn’t work. He then went and bought a gun and tried to blow his brains out. But he was interrupted by Tom - Tom from the island. Apparently those ‘others’ can leave the island when they like.

Tom told Michael that the island doesn’t let anyone kill themselves. So, there’s that. But since Michael is miserable, Tom wanted to take advantage of that. Or, Ben did, rather. Tom said that Widmore had faked the crash of Oceanic 815 and he was sending a team (the freighter people) to find the island, and he wanted to be the only person who found it. And when they found it, they would kill all the survivors, and take Ben.

Michael was guilt-tripped into doing this. Although Tom said Widmore faked the Oceanic 815 wreckage, it could have been Ben. Ben doesn’t want the island found. Tom has Michael go on the freighter as a crew member that will kill everyone on board. Oh, and Tom is gay! No lie. He was with a man. At least someone is getting some.

Something interesting is that Michael kept having nightmares/visions of Libby. Why Libby? Well, maybe because he killed her. But he also killed Ana Lucia. So, who knows!

Oh - Karl and Rousseau were killed in the jungle, but there are so many damn characters we had to get rid of a few, right? Karl is eh - but Rosseau, man! She was great. Ben had sent those two off to safety with his daughter. Ben might have had his people kill those guys so that he could have his daughter to himself. Just like Juliet. Except Jack will never die, I’m pretty sure.

Oh - aaaand, Sayid turned Michael in as a traitor.

Now we have to wait a month for new Lost episodes.
