The Summer “Toyota Concert Series on TODAY” Schedule

The “Toyota Concert Series on TODAY” will be continuing the tradition of summer concerts on Friday’s. If you don’t know anything about this, then you must not be an early bird since this is the 13th year they’ve been doing this. Of course, I’m not an early bird so I am glad to see the performance dates and names released so I know if I should be setting my alarm early enough to factor in a song. Because of the Olympics that will be occurring this summer, the concert series is beginning a little earlier than normal. Fans of American Idol will be pleased as the woman who will be kicking things off is none other than judge Paula Abdul.

Ironically, the only performance that I really, really want to see is the one that’s still in the studio and will be on April 1st. It’s R.E.M! (I am, I am, I am Supermaaaan….) In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003 / Accelerate

Matt Lauer

Something a little interesting to me is that Ashlee Simpson will be performing in the studio on April 18th, and she is slated to appear again in for the summer concert series on July 4th. I just want to know, does America really need that much Ashlee Simpson in their lives? (’Cause I don’t think I do.) Is Ashlee the singer who can best convey American feelings of pride on the 4th? *Shrug*

Other artists that will perform are Alanis Morisette, Coldplay (I love them but they’re so mellow it’d put me back to sleep), Miley Cyrus (little kids are up early, right?), and Sheryl Crow – whom Matt Lauer describes as a “TODAY Show favorite”. I sense a crush! (Oh c’mon, I’m just kidding. Unless I’m not because I’ve accidentally discovered a conspiracy!)

The time listed for these concerts is 7 a.m. but I’m pretty sure they go on later than that. But that’s why you have TiVo and all that, right? Man, I gotta invest in that!

  1. Hi. I’ve been living in New York for less than a year so I had no idea about these concerts. Even if you think they’re mellow, I am a HUGE fan of Coldplay and I’m so happy they’re bringing them. But how does this exactly work? I just have to go and stand up there at 7am? Should I go earlier? What does people usually do? How long are they going to sing? is it just one song?

Sorry about the amount of questions, is just that I am SERIOUSLY excited to see Coldplay again… I really don’t want to miss it.

Thanks for the post! It’s very informative.

  2. Great music taste, I love Coldplay. Gwyneth says the new album is brilliant! Sadly, I don’t know anything about attending the concert. Your best bet for accurate info is to go to the TODAY website and e-mail them, or call a toll free number, if they have one. I’m sorry I know know, but I do hope you visit Sofachip again!
