Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Interpreted In Ink
It seems that ever since Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been around - so have artistic interpretations of our heroic blonde Slay-gal. While you can now find comic books in stores of her, it’s nice to see how else she is being conceived and brought to life on paper. (Notice how I am not making a Once More With Feeling reference/joke to ‘hey, I died twice!’? That takes internal strength I did not know I was capable of!) I looked on DeviantArt.com and found some goodies to share with you. I want to thank both of the artists for letting me do so.
Here are sketches of Buffy Summers by 33 year old Francis Portela from Barcelona, Spain. Check his page out here: portela on deviantart.com. This is undeniably Buffy - she is captured here looking like none other than Miss Summers. From these different renderings you can sense different aspects that were very true to her - from her powerful attitude, to her snarky-yet-contemplative moments. True to my own nature, I am drawn to the hair because it is done so well - all full and bouncy. ( I think half the reason I wanted to watch Disney’s Sleeping Beauty so many times as a child was because I was so enviable of the way her hair looked. ) I love what was done with these drawings.

The next picture is of Buffy and Angel done with a ink and a brush by 26 year old Aaron Minier from Indiana, USA. Check his page out here: aaronminier on deviantart.com. To see the below image larger, click here and then click on the image. He’s also done an amazing drawing of Jayne from Firefly.
This is done in a totally different style, yet the image could be no one but Buffy (and Angel). This is not based on any whole picture anywhere - it was conceived within the artists’ brain. This time, I have to say that not only do I like the way Buffy’s hair looks, but Angel’s is equally remarkable. He had unusual hair on the show that seemed to always work and look damn good despite the laws of gravity and style. Buffy is in her power pose here, a force to be reckoned with - and though Angel is in the shadows (all dark and mysterious - mmm) he still has an aura of power of his own.
All of the artwork here is copyright © to the artists. We all acknowledge that none of us own Buffy, Angel, or their eternal love. Joss Whedon is the man to see about that!

I think we all own a part of their eternal love, you know? Or wait, maybe I’m thinking about their souls. And by “we all own” I mean Joss owns all our souls. Yeah, I think that’s about right.

Wow, these are really cool, especially the second one. Oh how I wish I knew how to draw like that. And who knew a drawing could be so hot!

Joss should be more careful with our souls.
I agree, Sandie. Hot, hot, hot.
