Here’s to the Show that Made Us All Want to Live on a Creek, Especially if it Came with a Dawson (or Pacey)

Dawson\'s Creek

On Monday Buzz Sugar started a poll to see what the most popular teenage drama of all time is, according to fans. As of right now Beverly Hills 90210 is winning the race. Then comes Buffy the Vampire Slayer and My-So Called Life. I voted for Buffy, that’s just how I roll.

Dawson’s Creek is a contender, and I’m glad. That was back before Katie Holmes was abducted by Tom Cruise. The show was and is amazing. What I remember hearing a lot back when the show was new was how ‘they talk funny’ – because they used large words. Personally, I loved it – and I learned words from watching! Persnickety, anyone? I can remember watching the pilot, loving the new world. I can also remember watching the season finale – crying, but happy. (The show had run its’ course, Joey ended up with Pacey, and though Jen had a sad ending – we got to see Michelle Williams prove her acting chops in a major way.)

Gossip Girl is also a contender, and this isn’t right. The show hasn’t even had a full season yet – how can people know it’s the best teenage show of all time? What if all of the other seasons suck? Personally I think the ‘new shine’ of the show is blinding people to the fact that it doesn’t hold up next to other teen shows we’ve had on our screens.

Surprisingly, One Tree Hill isn’t in this list.

Watch the results unfold here.

  1. awww, when I was in high school, I’d shut myself in my room on Wednesday nights (or Tuesdays? I don’t remember. whatever night it was. lol.)for my “Cheesey Teen Drama Night” and watch Dawson’s Creek and Party of Five.

I wasn’t quite old enough for 90210 but my older sister was OBSESSED with it for awhile when she was in junior high. I remember thinking Shannon Dougherty was SO PRETTY when I was 9. um. yeah. the early 90s were not kind to people.

I’m surprised VM is on the list. I don’t think of that as being a “teen” show at all! It’s so much more sophisticated than everything else in the bunch. And as for Gossip Girl, I couldn’t even make it through an entire episode!

  2. I love both DC and PO5. < 3

I don’t think VM is really a teen show, too. I mean, it is – but it isn’t.

    :D

  3. I voted for Buffy ’cause I roll the same way you do, but I had the biggest urge to also vote for 90210 ’cause it was part of the reason all the others were able to follow. FOX was like the WB of its time and that ran 10 years.

I was a product of mostly the 90’s since I was teen during that time, and that show lasted the decade :)

Again, though, I have too much Buffy loyalty,

  4. I can expect no less from such a loyal BTVS fan!

    :D I miss you, Gina!

90210 was good, although I didn’t see much of it. I still like the idea of it. If that makes sense.
