So I Guess There’s More to this Thomas Edison Guy Than We Thought (Thanks, Supernatural!)

(No Ratings Yet)

I finally saw the latest Supernatural episode entitled Long Distance Call. Let’s just say the title is misleading. THE CALL IS COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE! Or…just kidding. No, really. I’m kidding about that. I’ve just seen too many horror movies. Or…can you really ever see too many horror movies? Well, maybe. Some people don’t need their mind any less stable. Mine’s fine, thanks for asking!

There was another mislead in the episode which I will talk about. The town they were in was Milan, Ohio. That’s where Thomas Edison is from. Riveting, I know. I mean, don’t get me wrong - the guy did some amazing things. And if you want to know about them, maybe you should have been paying attention in 4th grade (5th?) ’cause I’m not here to educate about history. The thing none of my teachers bothered to mention to us is that Edison was trying to make a machine to talk to the dead.

Okay, it’s a little less cool than that. Edison didn’t believe in ghosts in a supernatural sense, but a scientific one. He did believe in something he called life units, though. Some say that he made the machine and it worked. There are several theories. If you’re interested in reading more, this site is cool.

Thomas Edison may have been a little more eccentric than we have been lead to believe. (Then again, aren’t geniuses supposed to be like that? No wonder no one can understand me!) But the reason I say this is because on good ol’ Wikipedia.org I found this excerpt: Edison’s last breath is reportedly contained in a test tube at the Henry Ford Museum. Ford reportedly convinced Charles Edison to seal a test tube of air in the inventor’s room shortly after his death, as a memento. A plaster death mask was also made.

Oh, my.

I do not see anything about life units or ghosts on the Wiki, though. Conspiracy!

Let’s show a little love to our very first Sofachip Sponsor Shana Logic. I’ll be writing about the website in the coming days, but whet your appetite now! The Shana Logic motto is Shop Indie. Pass it on. Thinking about Dean and Sam Winchester, you might want to buy something for your sibling (or best friend who’s like a sibling). I can see Dean buying Sam this Devil’s Eye.

If you’d like to subscribe to Sofachip and your Ouija board isn’t working, just go to the main page! (Also, Ouija boards are evil and you should seriously not use them.)

Did you also know that Thomas Edison had “men” that he sent around to scare other inventors? True story! I know because I saw it in a movie.

Sorry buddy hate to correct your, edison was not a genius unless you count the fact of screwing people over for a living is genius, then yes i guess he would be a genius. But other than that very interesting article

So that part was really true? I have been waiting to read this post until I finally watched that episode. I learn things all the time from shows…and that one was a cool episode…making you realize that death is so final and you can’t talk to your loved ones ever again… :(

Hey. Yes - it was true. There’s variations to the story as to why he wanted to make it (some say he wanted to keep inventing and talk to people after he died) and if it was truly made, or if other inventors worked on it later. But yea. The basics are all confirmed.

Hmm. Not a fan of Ghost Whisperer, I take it? :P I’m not a big fan, but I watch it occasionally. I do believe in ghosts in some way. I don’t know.
