Why I’ll Defend Sarah Jessica Parker’s Wacky Hat

So, the Sex and the City movie premiere happened in London, and Sarah Jessica Parker wore this on her head:

People might call her ridiculous. People may suggest she wanted to overcompensate for being so short. People might say she’s wacky. I say, she’s fabulous and she is the only person who could pull this off and not make me laugh at them. She’s having fun, and isn’t that the whole point of being a fashion icon?

Here they all are: Kristin Davis, Cynthia Dixon, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker aka Charlotte, Miranda, Samantha and Carrie.

They dressed very ‘in character’. As usual, I like what SJP and Kristin Davis (Carrie and Charlotte) are wearing best. I wouldn’t don the headgear, though.

Question - I’m sure their stylists planned things together - wouldn’t it have been more wise for Davis and Cattrall not to both wear red?

  1. I totally agree with you. I mean, if SJP can’t wear it and get away with it, who can? I LOVE her and think she is fabulous.

  2. I’m amazed she can keep that hat on her head! Even with a ton of bobby pins, it looks it’s still a major gravity-defying feat!

And I totally agree with you. It just looks FUN. It makes me smile. Whereas most runway haute couture just makes me go “wtf?”

  3. Colleen and Kerstin, I’m glad to hear people agreeing that SJP can defy some fashion rules. I get annoyed at people who say things about her ‘oh she’s too old - etc, etc.’ Sarah Jessica is iconic, helping to break mainstream boundaries, and it’s truly her spirit that I think ultimately has most of her fans gravitating towards her. She had a quote in a magazine several years ago, and she lives true to it: “Let your freak flag fly!” Embrace what makes you unique, and run with it - because that’s what will make YOU happy. And wow, I am so done with my mini sermon! LOL. (I think I am totally talking to myself here, I need to remember these words!)

Colleen - I’m glad to see you back here. That means I don’t totally suck.

Kerstin - Your support means a ton :) Shall we say, a ton equal to a barrel of orange monkies? :D
