Why Some Teens Shouldn’t go to College

To clear things up right away, if you read this entire piece you’ll see that I’m not actually advocating people not get a higher education, unless they’re fictional. Now, I have a note of importance to make! James Lafferty (Nathan Scott on One Tree Hill) actually looks attractive with longer hair. I don’t like him with shorter hair, it makes his face look so square. Square faces = not that great. I’ll take the time to point out that I watched the season finale of One Tree Hill, mostly just because it was on and I didn’t want to move away from my fan when it was hitting my bare legs just so, cause hey – it’s suddenly hot! The finale wasn’t horrible. But I do not understand how they’re dealing with Peyton. Pathetic much?

One Tree Hill, fierce posing 101

The idea of her throwing water balloons from a roof does sound therapeutic, but there’s a point where you become a crazy ex-girlfriend and I think she’s hit it. She’s gone past the normal point of leaving a million messages, by painting ‘I love you’ a million times on a basketball court. I may not have great psyche into the male mind, but I do know that this is where some TV shows romanticize things way too much. That’s why Sex and the City is more relatable. Guys (or people, actually, in general) are more often jackasses who break-up with you on a post-it note. I’m not bitter or jaded by humanity, but I know better than to expect that kind of treatment. I see people making catchy bumper stickers about how Fairy Tales and Disney movies ruined life for them by having them expect too much. But will no one look back in twenty years and say the same of some of these shows?

Though I am not a huge fan of One Tree Hill (OTH) – I haven’t heard a bunch of fans say they’ve disliked any particular season. If I’m wrong, correct me. The thing that OTH is doing right, that so many shows have done wrong – is skip the college years. Dawson’s Creek, The O.C. – and many other shows have done well up until the season their characters graduate college. It’s difficult to have your characters go off and live life and do the college thing, but all stay together. The show changes and it’s never what you loved. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one show that did manage to take us on the journey, though many of us hated growing up and kicked our feet while complaining about new characters.

peyton and lucas

Look, a One Tree Hill podcast! If you want spoilers for season six of OTH, you got ‘em here. They’ve eliminated one of the girls as a possibility for who Lucas calls to get married in Vegas. Daemon’s TV seems to be able to guess what will happen on the show, that’s a fun talent. Did you miss the finale and need a recap? Let me direct you to The Recapist. And now we segue into something else…

When I was musing over things aplenty with my friend, Kristen, I somehow thought of the old PBS show 3-2-1 Contact. Much to my horror, she had never heard of it. Well, that just couldn’t be so. Only, it was. But I’m still positive that I’m not the only person who’s heard of, watched, and loved this show. (I also wore magenta stirrup pants when I was younger, and I know I’m not the only one guilty of that.) If you need the dets (as they say) you can check the Wiki to refresh your memory.

This lead me to remembering another PBS show I loved, Cover to Cover. It was hosted by John Robins, and he would use colored pencils to draw a scene from a book while it was narrated. Jog your mind by going to this YouTube video and skip forward to around 1:35. Ah! I’m going to include the Sesame Street tag on this post so any of you who love this vintage 80’s TV stuff can check out that as well.

I’ll leave you with these words of advice from Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls): “Be good. Ooh. Make sure you look in somebody’s sock drawers. Rich people have hilarious sock drawers.”

They really do.

  2. You know what? I do feel that this is the worst season of OTH.

You are soooo right about Peyton. She has become so unbelievably pathetic. I never liked her and I reaaallly dislike her now. I would love for Brook/Lucas to get together again, but it seems unlikely.

And Peyton/Lucas is just wrooong at this point. Also, I despise Lucas he is also very very pathetic.

Anyways, I am sure no one is getting married to Lucas in season 6. Not enough build up, there will be some other twist.

Also, Dan in danger for like the 57829454th time. Seriously.

  3. Good point about Dan, he’s got nine lives! I like Lucas/Brooke but I don’t know if it would be healthy for Sofia and Chad to play that out. Oh well.

  4. Thanks, Gibsy :) I like your name.

  5. Definitely true about Sofia and Chad. But Peyton/Lucas bugs me to no end, I think it has run its course.

Luke should freaking move on from all the ladies and move to Tibet to find his “true self” lolz ) In the meantime the ladies could enjoy their lives with someone else. I would hardly miss him if Chad left and was replaced by some other hottie, his acting skills are not so hot. )

  6. Haha. Yea. He’s old too – I mean, he was playing a college guy on Dawson’s Creek like five years ago!

  7. You asked if there were any fans that hated a scene of One Tree Hill. I am an avid fan and have been watching since the beginning. But this season, I wanted to strangle Mark Shwann (creator of OTH). Little Jamie nearly dies in a drowning. From the first episode, I said to myself, “They should have a fence around that pool. They have a little boy.” Some tragic accidents have happened in Tree hill; haley’s accident, Lucas’ accident, dan shooting keith. None can top drowning a little bot. It was heart wrenching. I was MF-ing the TV.

Anyway, to answer your question, Yes. There are scenes fans hate.

  8. I was actually asking specifically about seasons (not scenes), if there was a season in particular that was dislike. I imagine it would be hard for a show to have even one season where there was a scene people didn’t like. LoL.

Having said that, you are so right to point out this pool/fence thing. If you have a young kid, and a pool – you need a fence. But I guess they couldn’t make that scene happen as well (or have the set look so clean) with a fence. Maybe it was foreshadowing. Or maybe they just got lazy.
