From Scandal to Soundtrack: The Sex and the City Movie Aftermath

Should we discuss the Sex and the City movie? I think we should. I’m listening to the soundtrack right now. I’m very pleased that The Weepies were included on the soundtrack because since I heard ‘The World Spins Madly On’ in the movie Because I Said So (very fun and light chick flick with Diane Keaton, Tom Everett Scott*, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham, Piper Perabo* and Stephen Collins) I’ve been loving them. I could do without the Fergie track, but the supa-fine tracks by Jennifer Hudson (American Idol alum), Jem, and india.arie make up for that.
As for the dress debacle with Sarah Jessica Parker at the New York premiere, well, yes, I do have an opinion. Girls who go to prom have stores with dress registries so that they don’t wear the same dress because we (females) don’t love to be in the same dress for a big event. While it’s harder to do that for ‘the world’ instead of just a school, designers are pretty good about this for celebrity red carpet moments. And you (at least I) would think that for a movie for an actress and character that are so all about fashion, that a designer would pay special attention to details.
Like, if he’d just had another woman photographed on a red carpet in the dress - where he stood by her. I mean, that’s just tacky. However, Sarah Jessica Parker looked like a benevolent and stylish glam fairy queen in the dress, so I guess we can’t call this a loss.
Jossip reports that Sarah Jessica Parker had 40 dresses she was deciding between, so doesn’t it figure she picked the one that would cause a scandal! I know with some other celebs you could accuse them of doing this on purpose for promotion, but I think even goats in Canada knew about this movie. (That’s my weird example, yes.) No scandals or more promotion was really needed. And Sarah Jessica Parker does not seem the type to do that. Not that I am her close personal friend, or anything. But I like to think that her and I have spoken with our eyes over the TV screen, and understand that we’re both classy, fabulous ladies who’d never wear Croc’s (although I might wear these atypical Croc’s) or eat beef jerky. (Or fried pickles, as my friend Alan just pointed out. Who eats those?!)
Craving that studded belt that Carrie wears in the movie? Catwalk Queen has you covered.
But, hi, what is up with the gross amount of product placement within the movie? You can see a full list on Vanity Fair. I discovered a link on Fifty-Something that warned us that this would happen.
Jennifer Hudson - All Dressed In Love:
*After you saw That Thing You Do with Liv Tyler (no, I have NOT seen The Strangers yet, ahhh), who didn’t have an insta-crush on Tom Everett Scott?
*Why do I feel compelled to watch Perabo’s movie Coyote Ugly every time it comes on TV? Do all 20-something girls who grew up with that movie have that crazy compulsion? I will admit to having the soundtrack, even.
