EmbraceYourGrace.com Asks Questions I Want to Answer
Do you remember when I urged you guys to watch Saving Grace (Holly Hunter) on TNT? I think some of you listened! Er…I mean read! Although, I certainly can’t take credit for the entire 5.2 million viewers that tuned in for the season two premiere. That would just be cocky of me! (Source: TNT, btw, I’m not just making up numbers.)
Fans of Saving Grace are excited about EmbraceYourGrace.com, a social networking website. When I first heard that, my instinct was to cringe. Another one? I thought with dim hopes. I went to the site expecting to be less than thrilled – despite my love for the show. But the thing is, I’m already placing this site in my bookmarks with the full intention of visiting it often. So, read below to see how I went from indifferent to interested.

It is a website that is interactive alongside the show (polls, forums, tie-in contests) and lets fans connect between (or during commercial breaks of) episodes. A highlight of the site is that the creator of the show, Nancy Miller, updates a blog (hey, that’s what this is!) there which currently asks you to think on questions related to the series premiere. We’re not talking about ‘do you think Grace wore the right shoes?’ type of questions. More like, “We last saw Grace with a gun against the head of Father Murphy, the priest who molested her when she was a child. What do you think she should do? What do you think she will do? If Murphy dies, what will happen to his soul?”
That’s something to think on and there’s nothing fluffy about it. You can self-reflect – you don’t have to feel pressure to answer the question like you’re in school and the teacher isn’t moving on until you’ve voice an opinion (on a book you’ve never read). There’s no ‘right’ answer. But if you do feel share-y, then the website allows you to talk about what you think with others.
Other writers are on the site, such as the comic Mindy Raf, TheStrongBuzz.com founder/author Andrea Strong, and Sherri Rifkin, an author, who recently came out with the book LoveHampton. (There are more wonderful women on board, and they all have more accomplishments than I can mention here, so check out the site for more thorough bios!)
If you’re looking for a place to get started try reading Revenge is Never Right by Jessica Delfino (the quirky and fabulously fun musician). Then read the opposite viewpoint from Andrea Strong, Take Revenge. As long as you can be civil (no ‘omg you suck!’) you aren’t going to be censored – you can state your mind. Saving Grace fans are lucky to have EmbraceYourGrace.com, and I think it’s the type of website we wish all of our favorite TV shows would produce.
I just got finished reading I Wanna “Be Known” Too! by Mindy Raf. It’s time to start some self-reflection.

How many hours a day does Holly Hunter work out & what!! does she eat????
Jessica Rae | Jul 18, 2008 | Reply
I think that’s a question that only Holly Hunter can answer.
I eat cereal!
paulina | Jul 24, 2008 | Reply
what does it have to do with what she eats? I watch the show because i was molested by my uncle at 9 years old and I told a preist and he did not do any thing !!! I finally told my mother about it I have ababy girl out ther because of him but I LOVE MY DAUGHTER SHE DIDNT DO ANTHING WRONG NEITHER DID I!!!!!!A
Jessica Rae | Jul 26, 2008 | Reply
I’m guessing the commenter wanted to know what she eats because they want to follow her diet plan and get her body. Or something.
No one is saying that’s the point of the show. Paulina, I’m glad you told your Mother. You are right – neither you or your daughter did anything wrong. Some people are horrible. I’m sorry that it happened to you, but I can tell you are strong and a fighter. Never give up your inner strength. No one can take that from you.

I simply admire her for being is such great shape & wondered how she did it. That’ all…..
Jessica Rae | Jul 27, 2008 | Reply
Sorry Candi, I get it. I admire her, too. I still don’t know what she does, but I can tell you that today I’ve been drinking some of that K20 Protein water and it’s good and I think it is staving off the urge to eat any needless snacks. It’s the pink lemonade kind. Hope that might help!

The show explores so many dynamic issues and we are writing about food? That saddens me.

I love this show because Holly Hunter is so cute. How can a little, tiny woman be so powerful? Don’t mess with Grace. I love the way the show deals with religion-the good, the bad and the ugly. Who doesn’t need a guardian angel? If we could see and talk to them, even better. Religion is such a comfort. It answers our whys. It’s the people who serve that get in the way and destroy our faith, sometimes. This is a cop show. Those guys have to believe in good and evil. I wish Grace wasn’t so predatory in her love life, but I guess it suits the character. Can we do something with the hair? It makes her look trashy. Straight would be good. No pony tail and not a chignon. Maybe all curly or a french braid. Holly you are really cool and I’ve always loved your work. You go girl!
Elizabeth S. | Aug 13, 2008 | Reply
In response to Thea’s comments: First of all, I don’t think the show is “about religion”. Just because there is a priest: a guardian angel and soforth. I think Amazing Grace is about a woman who is trying to find a place in the world while at the same time finds herself in the middle the age-old confrontation between good and evil. You can call it “religious” if you like, however I do not think Saving Grace is a simple religious tale. Grace makes me love her; I want to be her; I want her to be my best friend. And re the comment about her hair????? What would you prefer? Straightened with a hot iron, or perhaps a curly do? And Grace is not going to get up 45 minutes early to arrange her hair in a french braid. Grace is a bit tacky (after all she is in Oklahoma).

Oh no! Next week is the season finaly. It looks like something might happen to Ham–I hope not. Though generally speaking, I do not think cheating on one’s spouse is a good thing. Grace But, the chemistry between Grac and Ham is sooooo good.
Tess Ped | Aug 20, 2008 | Reply
Holly Hunter does a fantastic and mind riveting performance in this TV crime drama. She laughs, she cry’s and so damn strong. Her body is so well toned. Her love affair with ham is fantastic, Its silly, its passionate, its tough, and seductive. The rest of the cast is fantastic as well but Holly hunter and her partner Ham, just makes the show so dynamic. Seeing and hearing Ham’s pain and anguish over loosing his brother in a plane crash, and Grace’s pain, wanting to revenge the catholic priest who raped her when she was young. Or her nephew who lost her dog in the park, and she was so grived over that…My God, what are we fans going to do when its over for the season? That’s one more episode away !!!!

You can listen to the themesong on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxu21fYnKMw
It is actually called “Saving Grace”
Hope that helps. It’s a great song. I’m listening to it now. It’s perfect for the show, and for Grace especially. Can you imagine any other song working more perfectly than this one?
Elizabeth L. | Aug 21, 2008 | Reply
This show rocks. H.H. Rocks. We are the same age, and even though I am slightly disabled, Grace inspires me so much. I know H.H. reads this and cracks up about the hair, food, body. Etc. I think she’s going to dump Ham, start playing w/ the cowboy, and seeing ham on the side. Thd angel won’t approve, but that will not stop her. I would love to be a writer on this show!

I’m glad that Grace is an inspiration to so many of us, even though we have different takes on her. I personally dig her tousled hair and think it fits the character.

I just learned on the last episode about setting the alarms on our phones, watches , etc. At noon, to pray for the war to end. And I am passing it along on the net, family and friends. (Prayer chain) Was there a special TERM that they used for this in WW2? Thanks Elizabeth
Jessica Rae | Aug 21, 2008 | Reply
I’ve been googling to try and find an answer for you, but I can’t seem to find one. (If anyone comes along and knows, please leave us a comment!) Even without the term, I think it’s so wonderful that you would do this, and encourage others to do this as well. Sometimes we don’t need to know the name of something to know the value it has. Do you know what I mean? Maybe I’m just sounding crazy.

This is my favorite show on television! I particularly like the fact that there is a voice for those of us who are not religious and don’t buy into organized religion but still have faith in the human race….Grace is a character who shows it is okay to not believe in God but still be a good person underneath all of the mess that we call life. Holly Hunter and the whole cast play this to perfection!

The entire show always leaves me a little speechless, in a good way. Can’t wait ’til March. C-ya then–Holly……

Jessica, did the Kellog Kprotein water work for you? I’m 62 and have been thin all my life until the past few years. I would clean Holly Hunters House for a year if I could transform my body to look like hers. I love her character, she’s tough; smart; funny; sensuous. We all have issues, some worse than others, but thats part of what makes us unique.
Jessica Rae | Sep 22, 2008 | Reply
Elizabeth S. – It’s been a while, but I think the Kellog water did help. I think water in general has like, 70873 million benefits which includes making you feel full the more you drink. I keep a water filter in the fridge so I always have COLD water. That’s because water literally tastes better the colder it is, and I don’t like water that much otherwise. LoL. Anyway, I buy lots of the Crystal Light to-go packets with enhanced properties like vitamins or caffeine. Right now I’m into the wild strawberry flavor.
Cardio is annoying to do, so I might suggest pilates – which is easy on the body but can work well on toning. I just like to take walks outside to keep my metabolism up throughout the day.
My parents finally saw their first episode of Saving Grave the other night!

I think Saving Grace is a awesome show… Holly Hunter is a wonderful actor. I believe in the higher power. My son past away April 24,2008 I had a hard time dealing with it, I prayed that I would get a sign from God that he was O.K. and I did it was on a Friday it was raining, cloudy and cold. I put PeeWee’s little coat on her and started out the door she is my little dog. There was a white Dove sitting at the edge of my porch, it looked at me and flew towards my car turned around and came towards me and flew over the house in the direction where my Son is buried. It was as if God told me he was O.K…It was like Noah in the Bible sending the Dove out to look for dry land. I love to see Earl he is so cool..

A Dove came to my deck after my mom passed away 5/2006, it gave me the same feeling. It was great…

I loved last nights episode (March 23). I love Earl and his wit. What he says is so true about having faith ie the scene with Leon and how Earl showed him how to see the prayers on the floor. It made me cry!!

I love the song it gives chills to my soul. It makes me feel good. I love Earl but where did his wings go? I love his wings. Earl is just so cool. I wish he was the real deal and can tell me what happend to my missing brother of nearly 35 yrs. My sister will have passed one yr. ago on Easter and I miss her so much and Grace Reminds me of my sister and I told her to watch the show and she got to see it before she passed away. I hope that the writers will keep the CSI into the scenes more. Makes it real interesting. The sex is good but please don’t go overboard. I love Grace but please don’t make her look too trampy. One guy at a time is good!!
:)I love her sense of humor and she and I could be good friends if I knew her. The last two shows have been perfect. I hope Leon will get a stay because it is so good to watch he and Earl talk about God. Leon needs to pay for what he did but I think his son needs him even from Prison. Keep up the great work people. I would hate to lose this show. I love and cannot wait to see each and every one. Thank you sooooo much!!! Just giving my input!!!! Ciao

I have watched every episode. I felt that Grace was portrayed as a very “morally loose” Oklahoma woman. But,as I said. I have watched every episode. The last two have mentioned Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Leon wore a Pecan Festival teeshirt in last week’s episode and Grace wore an Okmulgee jersey in this week’s. OSU/Okmulgee Tech was mentioned (their name has changed) in this episode as was McAlester State Penitinuary. But this final episode brought a tear to my eye and made me question my own belief regarding the death penalty in Oklahoma. Having gone on record at a federal jury duty in Muskogee, Ok a few years ago … I am now rethinking that opinion. Thanks, for such a controversial and thought provoking series with true Oklahoma names and addresses. And, come see the Tulledega Hills that surround a city called Henryetta some time!
