Claire Bennet is such a Mondo Liar!
TV News and Updates:
After two episodes, I’m officially DONE with True Blood. I was on board with the moody cinematography, but other than that I liked nothing. I couldn’t find a way to be interested, which is kinda crucial, you know? There’s just too many predictable scenarios (which is saying something when the show is greatly based on vampires – not your run of the mill topic) and I don’t find myself warming to any of the characters. Plus, a blonde with something special about her and a vampire that falls in love with her? We’ve been there before and it was done much better (see: Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Also, anytime the vampire, Bill, said ‘Sookie’ it made me cringe. (Like ‘SuuhKie’.) So, no more of that.
Anyone else have a problem with Heroes Claire Bennet saying she could always feel pain in her life before, but after being Sylarized, she can’t? If she could feel pain in the first two seasons, then why did she never look like she could? You can’t expect viewers to think that none of those injuries hurt enough for pain to read on her face. Tim Kring, be honest – this is a new idea you wanted for Claire to have a powerful story arc, but one that doesn’t exactly work with what you’d established! Oh well, no one else seems to care. But seriously, look at season one – Claire never even FLINCHES at things that would make most people wail in agony. Myself, included. Then again, I start crying if I have a splinter. (Shut up, I have a very low threshold for pain!) Look for an upcoming fun fashion post on SofaChip.com, featuring Hayden Panettiere.
Pushing Daisies and Chuck were fan-freaking-fantastic this past week. Remember that you can watch Chuck for free online at NBC.com.
Supernatural was okay, although I’d been spoiled as to what would happen. I’m guessing the next episode will focus on Sam and Ruby. Oh! And did I ever mention anything about The Office from the week before? JIM AND PAM!!!! YES, so romantic. I was in Urban Outfitters the other day and they have tons of random stuff based on The Office like word magnets and notepads that say ‘I love Jim’. Time to buy Christmas presents. If I could finish my shopping BEFORE THANKSGIVING, I would feel proud.
P.S. Winners are being e-mailed for the Heroes contest and 30 Rock contest we recently had.
Movies News and Updates:
The Sex and the City movie was a MAJOR letdown. It was depressing, and I felt like it shouldn’t have been made at all. Another letdown (though not as major) was Baby Mama. (I’m listening to the commentary now and I might like it better.) Sigh. How did that go wrong? Peeing in sinks should have made it golden (uh, that’s not a pun). I started to watch The Love Guru earlier but it was constantly gross (!!!) and seemed utterly pointless. So, it was clearly a guy movie. I joke! Instead of that, go rent The Guru with Heather Graham. It’s much better, and as far as I can tell the clothes are better. Guys will like it too, ’cause it’s based on porn. No, really.

agreed about true blood — i can’t get into it, the accents and writing are just too silly to be good.
and about heroes too! i had been wondering if claire could feel pain in the past, especially when she reached into boiling water to get her mom’s ring and didn’t even flinch. but i’m not that worried about realism or whatever in this show, so i’m just enjoying wherever it’s going :]

Yea, I know I’m being picky about the Claire thing, and it’s not gonna stop me from watching (or enjoying). It just seems, to me, to be a major fact point that has gotten messed up. But the writers are human so, yea. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out with Claire going darkside, hehe.

well it might be that got used to certain levels of pain. I mean if she was routinely trying to get herself dead she was put through A LOT of pain, so she might have learned how to push past it.
I know a lot of the veteran military folks I meet (my granddad is a veteran of WW2 and my mom is a drill sergant) one of the first things they teach them is to compartmentalize the pain of injuries received. in an active combat zone the chance you’ll get wounded on a semi-regular basis is high and a staff medic might not always be around to help you so you might be stuck with that pain for a good long time. Hollering and raising a ruckus won’t do you any good (except maybe get you and your squad killed quicker).
Admittedly Claire has no military training, obviously, but I think its an auto-matic thing by now for her.

Lexie, The thing that gets me is that when Heroes episode 1 started, Claire was still somewhat new to her abilities. She was figuring things out, testing herself. Pushing past pain is something she might have been doing, but wasn’t there an episode in season 2 where she gets hurt and it actually hurts and she doesn’t heal? Season 2 seems like a looong time ago now, though, so I may be thinking of another show.

Jessica–oiy does it ever. I…sort of only remember bits of season 2. Especially where it concerns Claire since Wes made me want to drive a stake through his skull. Several times over. Especially at the end. What kind of creepy stalker doesn’t vet the parents first?
The only time I don’t remember her healing is around the Hatian and I suppose when you’re used to an injury healing before it gets to the throbbing stabby searing pain stage it might overwhelm for a few. Can’t remember which season that is. Oh and when the stick was stuck in her skull in season 1, but then she immediately healed once it got pulled out of course.
note to self: next DVD purchase (after chuck, and terminator SCC) Heroes season 2. Just…ignore everyone you hate and skip around to the half naked Peter parts XD

Lexie – I’m with you on disliking Wes. He had a weird vibe and seemed a little generic and too princely at times. He seemed to me, more like a character to serve the purpose of another character (which, hey, sometimes you do need) than to have his own merit – however small. I know they tried to do that at the end, but I guess maybe it was too late then.
CHUCK! I love Chuck. Peter being shirtless, and Elle – that’s what really made season 2 awesome for me. Otherwise, season 1 of Heroes is still my favorite.

What did you find depressing about SATC: The Movie? I don’t disagree, I’m just curious. I thought the ending to Season 6 was *perfect* and a movie didn’t need to be made at all.
(That being said, if Miranda and Steve had stayed separated, I would have thrown things at the screen. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE.)
I miss you. xo.

Claireleo- I felt like they shoved in too many horrible things for each character to make big plots. I don’t deny the need for new, big plots for these chars after so long – but going from ‘perfect life’ to ‘all hell’ (for most of the movie) just didn’t resonate with me. I felt like all of the characters rushed through things and that they didn’t stay true to who the characters were. Miranda may have decided to leave Steve but I think after a lot more pondering. The way Big ended the first wedding and it was all redeemed for a second seemed not romantic. On page, it all sounds like it would be good. But it was executed in a way that was not at all appealing. Jennifer Hudson wasn’t needed and it should have been other characters who were helping Carrie through this stuff. It seemed like no longer could the girls help each other – ‘they were too old so they had to hire friends and no single over 40 woman could still have her girlfriends if they all have lives’ or something. Like, where was Stanford! And augh. It all just makes so mad. There should not have been a movie. RAWR.

I was a total Buffy fan and must say I find Tru Blood to be pretty interesting. I tune in every Sunday. I think you should try watching a few more episodes before you judge the show. I think the ratings speak for themselves!

Kelly – I do think you are right that I should give it more of a chance. I just hate to be overloaded with TV shows. (And this winter is all about DOLLHOUSE, yeaa?) When the season one DVD comes out I will probably get it and watch it late at night in a mini-marathon. Thanks for your comment
