Your Handy List of the Best DVDs to Give and Get for Christmas Gifts
I’ve created a list of DVDs of good Christmas gift suggestions for others or yourself. From Gidget to the supermodel movie Gia, there’s some great stuff you might not remember you wanted to see!
Amazon Most Wished for in Movies and TV DVDs
Mamma Mia! The Movie (Two Disc Special Edition) Because you never get sick of it, and neither does your sister.
Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition) Because it’s one of the best princess movies, ever. Introduce this to your niece and become a superhero in her eyes.
Lost – The Complete Fourth Season Because you’ve already forgotten what happened, but you know it was good.
The Office: Season Four Because it makes you laugh and that’s a medical health benefit!
Bones – Season 3 Because the cases and chemistry both rock.
Heroes: Season 2 Because it has Kristen Bell!
Firefly: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] Because if you haven’t seen it yet – you need to.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: 20th Anniversary Edition [Limited Edition] Because it’s witty and you need more witty in your life.
True Blood (HBO Series) Because you want to know what everyone has been buzzing about.
Made-For-TV-Movies
Gia (Unrated Edition) – Because you still remember Angelina Jolie before Brad Pitt and all the kids.
The Five People You Meet in Heaven Because being on i Oprah’s book club list doesn’t mean you can’t still love it.
Homeless to Harvard – The Liz Murray Story with Thora Birch – Because Lifetime movies are undeniably fun.
Freshman Fall with Candace Cameron of Full House – Because you want to see what Candace Cameron looks like as a ‘woman’.
Confessions of an American Bride with Denise Richards – Because it’s probably corny and funny, so why not?
Popular Amazon DVDs Under $20
Tin Man (Two-Disc Collector’s Edition) – Because the cast and crew have created undiluted magic with this mini-movie.
Schoolhouse Rock! (Special 30th Anniversary Edition) – Because you forgot some grammar rules and singing to learn is the only way to properly learn.
Kitchen Confidential – The Complete Series – Because it had cute boys, and the series wasn’t long enough.
The Complete Gidget Collection (Gidget / Gidget Goes Hawaiian / Gidget Goes to Rome) – Because you want to know who this Gidget is.
Angels in America – Because even though it was long, it was worth every hour.
—Breaking News Announcement Thing—-
We (I, and I guess my cat and this Russian nesting doll on my desk) interrupt this post on Christmas to bring you something else Christmassy that you can’t pass up unless you’re crazy! It is superior and surpsasses everything you’ve seen on YouTube, minus the dancing robot*:
So, like, um … OMG (excitement!)— Did you already see John Krasinski (Jim on The Office) singing ‘Winter Wonderland’ with Aimee Mann?!?!? IT’S THE CUTEST THING EVER!!!! Hi, I love them both – ahh! The talent is overwhelming. *Brain explodes* Oh, I didn’t need that anyway.

Some (other) Special DVD Recommendations from Me
Pieces of April – This is a movie with Katie Holmes (pre-Tom Cruise, I think) and it’s maybe the only movie she’s ever done that I like. And I don’t just like it, I love it. It has a Thanksgiving-theme, however it’s great for anytime. You will love this movie if you can dig an independent flick that weaves seamlessly between drama and comedy. You will especially love this movie if, on top of that – you ever feel like the black sheep of the family.
Two Days in Paris – It’s an eccentric and quirky movie that I watch when I know I’d like to be in France and have a crazy life. Er…crazy in a good way. Julie Delpy is magical on screen.
The Gnome-Mobile – I don’t love all of this computerized stuff (read: movies) – so why not relive this classic Disney movie with ‘the kids from Mary Poppins‘? Show it to your younger siblings, cousins, or random little kids you spot on the street!
DVDs that I Want!
Gilmore Girls – The Complete Series Collection
My So-Called Life – The Complete Series (w/ Book)
I also have been wanting the book, Pretty: The Goddess Experience, ever since Girl With a Satchel, Erica, wrote about it. (Mental note: Can I then put on my ressume ‘Goddess experience, 2 years’?)
*Okay, I have no idea if there really is a dancing robot on YouTube, but I gotta figure that there is at least one.

Where’s Dr Horrible? That’ll make a great gift for anyone who enjoyed the show, and it has “Commentary, The Musical!”

Thanks for posting the John Krasinski video! He’s TOTALLY on my top ten – a newbie to the list. And I don’t even watch “The Office” but I LOVE him.

Oh, and Christie – you have excellent taste! Is it just me or was House M.D. seasons 1-3 much more enjoyable than 4 and 5?
