Musings from the Movie Aisles of My Youth (The Movie Covers I Can’t Forget!)
When I was younger, we had these things called ‘movie stores’. Instead of ordering movies online via Netflix, you would go to a very large building that held shelves and shelves of movies. Sometimes I would become entranced by the covers of these movies. Even before I could read very well to know what a movie title was, I was always paying attention to the covers.
One of the movies I remember looking at a lot was Death Becomes Her. I don’t recognize the movie by the name, just by the cover. I haven’t seen the actual movie ever, because My TV Options are somewhat limited, unlike people with 3,000 channels (psh). Anyway, I had no clue the people in the movie were Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis. But I did still infer things about these characters!
I could tell this was a supernatural movie. One theory was that the woman in white was a ghost – since the candelabra was going through her, and she was in white. I did decide that the woman in red must be evil, while the woman in white was good. Color theory, whee!
I could probably find this movie easily on TV if I had DirectTV, but since I sadly don’t I’ll rely on my library or Netflix.
Another movie I’m googling for now is based on, ‘movie with girl on cover with noose of braided hair’. I found it! It’s called April Fools Day. Creepy. Okay – and ONE other movie cover that always caught my eye was the one with twins called Big Business with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin. So this is yet another time I wish I had directtv. But since the movies are older and not exactly in high demand, I think the library will have them with no other requests on them, no direct tv required!
I really want to know: What movie covers have really stuck in your mind?

I LOVE BIG BUSINESS!!!!!
Death Becomes Her is also good. I’ve never seen April Fool’s Day. Is it good?
Raiders of the Lost Arc & Jurassic Park spring to mind. E.T. The 80’s movies had great posters (yes, I know JP wasn’t 80’s – I’m just saying, the 80’s in general had great posters).

I’ve oddly never seen any of these movies – but I really want to see ‘Death Becomes Her’. I just read that Hawn and Streep wanted to do a movie together and almost did Thelma and Louise but then decided to do this for some scheduling reasons (I think).
The 80’s did have some of the best posters – very colorful. The 90’s seemed to focus a bit more on simplicity. With lots of black – I’m thinking of Scream, Fear… you know? More minimalist.

You haven’t seen Raiders or JP??? OR ET?!!!! :O *surprised*
*everyone* wanted to do Thelma and Louise. Cher and Michelle Pfeiffer also were desperate (they’re great friends). You’re right though – I think at the end of the day it came down to scheduling. Michelle and Cher have yet to do their buddie movie. pffft. *checks watch* Time’s moving on, ladies!
Yes. The 90’s were a little simplistic. Well, those posters you mentioned were anyway

I meant the three I posted about. I’ve seen JP and ET. NOT Raiders, though.
I love the Scream poster, though. Hehe.

Duh to me. I’m spun out right now for reasons you know of ;p
The Scream poster was indeed good. You NEED to Raiders. And DBC! AND BIG BUSINESS! Who’s funnier than Bette Midler?!
