Is Supernatural’s Two-Month Hiatus Working to Make You Forget the Ick?

Supernatural season four...not loving it?

Supernatural season four...not loving it?

Do Supernatural fans have enough reason yet to be as upset as Heroes fans? If you’ve been watching Heroes, you have a good chance of being one of the many who thinks that season two was made of suck, and that most of season three has been equally sucky. Which is weird, since season one was the most awesome thing ever, you know? Maybe it’s Claire Bennets’ wig (The Felicity Syndrome!) or maybe all of the writer’s have been replaced by robots. I really have no way of knowing. All I do know is that the only episode I really liked was the one on November 24th, and I’m not even sure how MUCH I liked it. Probably just enough to keep me watching next week.

I’m not so devoted to this show that I won’t stop watching if it annoys me, that’s the sad truth. Not that the network cares about ME, personally – but if I’m feeling this way, others may be feeling the same way. In fact, A little birdy on the Internet told me Heroes has been getting bad ratings this season…

Anyway, let’s stop talking about shows that suck and talk about another show that sucks! I kid. You see, this is the story (of a girl named.. uh, how does that Brady Bunch song go, again?) Supernatural hasn’t  been kicking the usual quota of ass! Sigh. Oh, SPN, I love you – and yet…what are you doing to me? You’ve been making me cringe!  Supernatural has only this year and one more before the show is finished. So time is, as Buffy would say, of the serious essence!

We have plenty of time to think upon the episode Heaven and Hell that aired on November 20th, since the next episode Family Remains isn’t slated to air until January 15th, 2009! And then there is Criss Angel is a Douche Bag. And no, that episode title isn’t a joke. (Reference: Ausiello) Episode 4×13 of Supernatural is titled Afterschool Special and that one I AM excited for. It’s going to be about the haunting of a high school Sam and Dean used to attend. I’d wonder if they’d do any flashbacks playing themselves, but considering how old the boys look now that’d be pretty difficult. You can check sneak peeks of all of these (and the last part is the BEST with Dean in red/orange gym shorts and a powerful whistle…) over at Daemon’s TV.

In other SPN news, I’m glad that Anna the angel is gone for the moment, but I’m sure she’ll be back…*excessive eye rolling*. I never had a problem with Jo or Bela or any of the other girls, but Anna annoys me.

Something we should discuss sometime: What’s with all of the ‘funny’ episode titles for Supernatural now? Overkill, Kripke - it’s overkill.

I really wanna know: Do you like this season of Supernatural more or less than the previous one? (Also: Would you still give the early seasons of this show, or any other, a watch if you know that the last couple of seasons weren’t so good?)

  1. I just have to say…the action in the Impala…was hot!! And the crying was awesome… That’s my hubby for you. :)

  2. :P Neeeeer. /random. Your husband cries a lot?

  3. My hubby Jensen… :)

  4. I’ve really enjoyed this season so far. I also thought the Impala love scene with Anna was very hot, but I’m willing to see her go. However, if she did come back, she’ll be an angel, not a human, so her feelings for Dean won’t be what they were. Angel’s don’t have hearts or feelings like humans, so it might be interesting to have a scene between her and Dean – he still grateful for her acceptance of him knowing what he did in hell, and her in all her angelness, not really giving a damn. Would be cool!

I think the series has evolved and earned the right to do everything its doing this season, and I’m totally on board! I regret we only (possibly) have S4 and S5 left of this terrific saga. But Kripke has really taken us a LONG way in 3+ seasons. I’m sure he can take us to the conclusion in style. Maybe The CW will talk him into one more season….? One can hope!

  5. I feel like talking about SPN so I’m so glad you left a comment :D I just did dishes so my hands are feeling pruney, though. LoL. Um…anyway!

I loved the first episode of this season a *lot* and I guess nothing has lived up to it in my mind. That doesn’t mean I haven’t liked it at all, though. I mean, it’s SPN – it’d have to stray veeerrry far for me to say it’s ‘bad’. Just wanted to clarify that.

That’s a great point about how if Anna comes back (and I bet she will) it’ll be a la Angel du jour! That *will* be interesting to see played out with Dean, and what feelings might be there.

I really wish Kripke hadn’t already said we only have one more season after this – but I respect that he and the actors only wanted to do so many…*grumbles, but accepts!* I don’t know if it’s crazy to think of spin-offs already, but I would really be down for one with the same crew and either someone like Jo, or just using the same universe but new characters. Maybe I should just wait and see what Kripke wants to do, though. He is probably tired. I have a lot of faith in him, whereas other shows have me *really* worried as the latter seasons progress.

Time to listen to some ACDC. :D

  6. I don’t think Anna and Dean had chemistry, but I did like some of the ideas brought up in the episode. The most telling moment for me was watching the look of curiosity and wonder on Castiel’s face when Anna kissed Dean goodbye.

On the whole, I think this season has been very good. Definitely better than last season, which granted was cut short and hurried by the strike. They’ve upped the ante in a very big way. When I watch now, I think, “Okay, so this is what they’ve been building toward all these years.” There’s a momentum and bigger scale to this season (Castiel = one of the best casting moves they’ve ever made), which also sadly means I see the end in sight. But what a ride.

I also thought “In the Beginning” was a brilliantly plotted, majorly satisfying episode. One of my favorites for sure.

  7. I do like that the show is following through on concepts, and giving us a big pay day in the end. I’m just not sure how I like we’re getting it.

Make no mistake – I’d like a Sam vs. Dean / vs. Angels vs. Demons showdown…but I liked the feeling of the first two seasons (two brothers, on the road) more than this one and the prior season.

I’ve liked a lot of past casting choices but I don’t like the new!Ruby or Anna. Castiel – yes, I do like.

  8. I agree with you there Jessica about wanting the show to kinda go back to the guys on the road. There seems to be too many characters that tag along with them. I do like Dean’s new layer though…especially the crying part….

  9. Taylor likes boys who cry :P

  10. Correction: I like Jensen when he cries… :)

  11. True. We like Ackles, always :)

  12. I just can’t like him by myself??? Now I’m gonna cry! LOL

  13. I totally disagree. I think Supernatural has been kicking ass. I have so much faith in the Kripke it scares me sometimes. So maybe it hasnt been so much with the rah rah lets fight but its been more ploty which we were warned about.

I think the show has been progressivly better from the beginning, something we dont often see in shows. The thing I think they’re doing more of now is pleasing their audience. Heroes is trying to do this and failing and it’s really screwing them over, which spn on the other hand is doing it and has such a cult following that its making the fans happy and their fanaticism is bringing in more viewers. everybody wins.

I haven’t really disliked the women in their lives as much as most spn fans have so the ick factor’s not really been a problem for me. I also dont really love Castel as much as most people either. I dont really know what that means. I need to think about this. hmm

  14. You are right about SPN not letting us down with a kick ass season like some other show… :)

  15. Well, I’m glad it seems to mostly be just me – lol.

I think Castiel is great in his part (casting & character) but I miss Kate Cassidy as Ruby. I’m also someone who liked Bela Talbot – I wish we’d see her again. I know lots of fans did not like her. Sometimes I think people get out of hand thinking that if there are no regular females on the show that it makes them feel better – like the boys aren’t ‘taken’ – which is weird and annoying. Then there are the pro Wincest fans which also skeeve me.

  16. Katie Cassidy, who I didnt appriciate at the time was a WAY better Ruby. I’d take that temp motel maid over Gennevive. I sort of thought we’d see Bela again too. I liked what she did to Dean, much more than characters like Anna.

Yeah I’m with you. I dont like the posession that the fandom has on not only the characters but the actors.

I think I figured it out, I do like Castiel but I dont expect him to really stay (even though I’ve heard talk of him being around for season 5) I dont feel like he’s part of the spn cast or team that I know and love. Maybe it’s because you cant really read him yet.

  17. Castiel…he’s almost too nice to not be killed. LoL. I always fear for Bobby. But Angels are a pretty big deal, I bet they’ll keep them around. Which means Castiel might be around for the last season. It’s hard to see the show with more regular cast members showing themselves.

I like it best when it’s the boys on their own – not when there’s a feeling like they have a lot of help. I know that fed into the reason of why the Roadhouse had to go boom.

  18. yeah I think they really need to watch the scooby team factor. Thats a really bad direction that we’ve been seeing lately.

  19. Okay, I never got this. Everyone from the Roadhouse died??? I was and still am confused about that. Though it’s probably a dumb question…

  20. re: The Roadhouse, I believe Ash died but Ellen and Jo are alive.
