Dr. Cuddy Can’t Decide
I have a feeling that Dr. Cuddy on House M.D. is just as picky as I am when it comes to decorating. On the show she is always very into making sure her office is decorated perfectly – and that’s just her office. A house is even more personal! I’ve been looking for a new pair of curtains for my room to go along with other things I’ll be doing to improve it (paint and such). But it turns out I’m very picky! I have decided on two different color schemes and I just have to decide between them.
The first color scheme is warm with burgundy, the other focuses on shades of blue, brown, and honey-gold. I’ve been considering both of these color schemes as I look on MANY different websites that sell curtains. It’s very hard to decide, though. I’ve been living with sheer curtain drapes in white, so I want something drastically different. On TheCurtainShop.com (where the pictures are from in my collage) I am a fan of the Gotham Insulated Velvet which comes in chocolate, blue, linen (ew – beige!) or a burgundy. Velvet curtains seem very cozy.
There are a surprisingly large amount of ruffly icky curtains. Country chic? Please no! On any site or with any store you need a discerning eye to get through all of the less than stellar options. Steer clear of ugly patterns, tacky fabrics, and anything in the color lime green.
I really wanna know: Do you think velvet curtains are a good choice?

My grandma had velvet curtains in her “front room” which was fancy and my sister and I were NEVER allowed except on Christmas, because that’s where her tree was. So, because of that memory, they seem very fancy and luxurious.
Velvet curtains are also VERY good at dampening noise and are generally heavy enough to be good insulators.
I hate my curtains. They’re very plain, a black cotton twill. But I can’t find anything I hate less and my apartment has blinds that hardly block any light.
Sigh. Now I want velvet curtains!
I need to decorate my room so badly. I got so tired of decorating my very first apartment after taking care of the bathroom, kitchen, living room, and dining area that I gave up before my bedroom. I wanted to buy new furniture (I’ve got the same stuff I’ve had all my life), but couldn’t find anything I remotely liked, so I did nothing. And it’s boring.
PLUS. If all else fails, you can make a dress out of your velvet curtains a la Scarlett O’Hara! Have you ever seen the spoof of Gone With The Wind from The Carol Burnett Show? you have to find it on youtube. HILARIOUS.

I love Velvet curtains but our place is super dusty because of the fireplace so they would never work.
But I love Cuddy’s new office…I want it…

Oh – I HATE dust! Dust is what another show called “The Devil’s Snow” LMAO. I forget the name – “Worst Week Ever” I think. It was on the promo.
I love the idea of velvet curtains to be COZY but I hate dust! Eeeep. I’ve been over at ApartmentTherapy looking at ideas. But everything is sooo expensive, man. I will let the ideas percolate.

I hate dust so much too but I don’t bother dusting here because it gets so dusty again the day after…it just is easier for my allergies to have it sitting there instead of kicking it around everyday.. LOL
I have blinds up but they came with the apartment I would have no clue what to look for if I had to put up curtains on my own. My exhusband always used blankets… LOL
