What Are You Watching on TV? What Good Movies Have You Seen?
I started today off with a rather unwholesome breakfast, but it was yummy and I’ve felt a bit sick recently, so therefore I forgive myself. For those whose curiosity gets the better of them, I had: chocolate milk (mixed myself so the chocolate ratio to milk is very low – all you need is a dab) and a toasted English muffin with butter and gourmet raspberry jam (from the tiniest jar imaginable). Hunger pains, anyone? Mmm.
Not too many of you have entered the Big Love DVD contest, which is a shame! If you aren’t already a subscriber, simply subscribe then enter! Amanda Seyfried is in it, btw – I know many are new fans of hers since Mamma Mia!
Since my life seems to revolve around TV and Movies, and I don’t always tell you exactly everything I’m watching, I thought today would be a good day to give a rundown of some of the good TV shows and movies I’ve seen the past couple of weeks.
Doctor Who – Series Two
For a girl who avoids Sci-Fi, I sure do seem to be watching a lot of it, huh? Oh well! I can’t worry about that while I’m trying to construct plans to build my own tardis! Actually, I told my friend (who is a way bigger geek than I am) he should find a lifesize poster of the tardis and then put it on his door and then say cheesy things like “Ladies, this way to enter the tardis” as he opens the door with a flourish. Of course, the effect may be lost on most – especially when they see the very normal room covered in dirty laundry and action figures… Ahem, anyway!
I’ve skipped season one, or series one (as the English call it) of Doctor Who to jump to who I believe will be my favorite incarnation of The Doctor – David Tennant. I’d really thought Billie Piper would annoy me in this series, but she doesn’t. I find myself wanting to be Rose Tyler, like any ol’ fangirl would.
So far I’ve seen the episodes: Christmas Invasion, New Earth, and Tooth and Nail. The episodes are all so ridiculously inventive. So, if you love good storytelling you’ll love Doctor Who. You MUST give them a real solid chance, though. My sister was watching Christmas Invasion with me and the entire time I heard the annoying refrain of, ‘this is so dumb’. Except! By the last five minutes she was totally into it and then bugged me to turn on the next episode. So, ha!
Love in the Afternoon
This is an Audrey Hepburn movie that is delightfully sweet. I seem to have an odd longing to watch black and white movies in the middle of the night when I’m all alone. I feel connected to them, like revisiting old friends. Is that…weird? Psh. This I watched on my Netflix Instant Watch.
This movie is romantic without losing a sense of comedy. For instance, consider these quotes:
Ariane Chavasse: Working on a new case?
Claude Chavasse: A client from Brussels. His wife ran away to Paris with the chauffeur. I have to find them; the husband wants his car back.
Claude Chavasse: In Paris people eat better, and in Paris people make love, well, perhaps not better, but certainly more often.
Monsieur X: Please, monsieur, is the news good or bad?
Claude Chavasse: That depends. Is this your wife?
[Hands over a photograph]
Monsieur X: It looks like her.
Claude Chavasse: Then I regret to inform you that it looks bad.
Monsieur X: Then there IS another man!
Claude Chavasse: There is. And I regret to say that he looks good.
2 Days in Paris
This movie was a re-watch for me, and I only re-watch movies I love. Julie Delpy is amazing, as is Adam Goldberg. Admittedly, it’s easy to say that this movie is similar to Before Sunset and Before Sunrise but I believe this movie is a horse of an entirely different color, it has its’ own heart, own soul, and own direction. I mean, what – can there only be a few movies set in Paris? Please! This is a ‘thinking’ movie for me, mostly because it tends to make me think – especially about communication with other people, and even myself.
I love all of the French speaking, but beware if you hate subtitles – there are large portions of the movie with them. I actually LOL at the scene with the bunny and the family at dinner.
The first time I saw the movie I was shocked at how frank it felt, and how jarring it seemed. But then I got wrapped up in its’ sheer awesomeness and forgot that I’m used to generic carbon copy movies. 2 Days in Paris is what you’d want a Reality TV show to really be. If you’re even a little inclined to see this movie then I bet you’ll like it.
Rebel Without a Cause
This was my first time seeing this movie. Natalie Wood looks so young, I didn’t believe it was her for the first fifteen minutes. Now that I’ve seen the movie I’ve looked online into the ‘James Dean Curse’ or ‘The Curse of Rebel Without a Cause’ which are both allegations that there was a curse on the movie which caused the main actors to all die of unatural causes. Coincidence, or not? That’s not for me to decide.
Again, let the quotes speak for themselves:
Jim Stark: Is this where you live?
Judy: Who lives?
Jim Stark: If I had one day when I didn’t have to be all confused and I didn’t have to feel that I was ashamed of everything. If I felt that I belonged someplace. You know?
Buzz Gunderson: What’s that?
Judy: That’s a new disease.
Buzz Gunderson: You know something? I like you.
Jim Stark: Why do we do this?
Buzz Gunderson: You’ve gotta do something. Don’t you?
Leverage
I had missed The Stork Job so I went to TNT.TV and watched it streamed online, for free! I loved when Parker had her insight into knowing the kid was really an orphan. It, in turn, shows insight into her character. That’s where she has a squishy soft spot.
Sleeping is not a hobby? LOL! I loved that quote given to Parker. It’s fun to watch Sophie give tips on manipulation – because they’re REAL tips. Watch out, we’re all being manipulated even when we don’t think we are!
Awkward!Parker is a lot of fun. When she drinks the coffee she brought over on the set, how can you not chuckle to yourself? And there’s no emotional payoff with werewolf movies? Psh, yea right. Hardison does know his Internet porn though, yes.
Have thoughts on any new TV or Movies that you’ve watched recently? Or maybe rewatched? Do you love or hate the movies I’ve listed? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve watched “Vicky, Christina, Barcelona” was really good, such colors!
“Curious Case of Benjamin Button” I didn’t like that much, it was too strange for my taste.
“Slumdog Millionaire” was an AWESOME movie, I loved it, the soundtrack, the dynamic, everything!

The first movie and the last movie you listed I really want to see. I didn’t hear great things about the Pitt movie, and you’ve confirmed a dislike of it, too… so I think I will skip that.
I am guilty of being downstairs watching another episode of Doctor Who

What I am watching on TV:
Leverage – Love, LOVE this show! So glad to see Christina Kane back on TV again. Yum-o!
House
Fringe
Private Practice
Lost (Back tonight…YAY!!!)
Ghost Whisperer
Nip/Tuck
Waiting for the return of Ugly Betty and The Closer. May check out Trust Me and Cupid, too.
Anyone else as upset as I am that ABC cancelled Eli Stone (in my opinion, one of the BEST shows that was on TV), Pushing Daisies (see Eli Stone…love me some Lee Pace) and Dirty, Sexy, Money? So aggravating.
I have seen a few movies over the past week or so, but nothing “new”.
The Dark Knight – I have to admit, seeing Heath on the screen brought a tear to my eye. He was just amazing in that role. GREAT movie.
The Incredible Hulk – I will watch/see anything that Ed Norton is in because I think he is one of the best actors around, this movie aside. All I can say is that I liked it much better than the first movie.
Death at a Funeral – Holy HYSTERICAL! A must see in my book!
August Rush – Cute, but not at all what I was expecting.
Wanted – Great action and special effects. Love Angelina Jolie so I will watch/see anything with her in it. A little hard to believe that James McAvoy goes from an office drone to one of the best assassins in the entire world, but a must see for anyone into action films.
Currently watching Half Nelson. So far, so good.

Colleen – Thank you for your awesome comment reply!
Leverage fan, eh? YAY. I hope you come back here to see advance reviews of some episodes coming up.
I LOVED the recent House episode on Monday, did you see it? It felt almost like old times.
I’m very upset about the cancellation of Pushing Daisies.
Fringe I never got into…I TRIED. I almost might try again… But it was so Sci Fi and I was’t investing in the characters…
I am UBER excited for LOST tonight! Two hours, remember everone! I wonder how other Oceanic Six members will think they want to go back.
I’m excited for Cupid, and Trust Me is really good! (I have an advance review of that, and The Closer – ahhh!)
August Rush was really cute but not as good as everybody said it was!
