One Loyal Eliza Dushku Fan Predicts Great Things For Dollhouse

Eliza and Nate

Eliza and Nate

The following piece was written by the fantabulous Ali of FaithSolace.com and NikkiReedFan.com. (At the time I’m writing this their server is having problems, but you should bookmark and check the sites out later!)

I have been a fan of Eliza Dushku’s for ten years now. (Time flies kids. Make good use of it!) Like many Buffy fans I couldn’t help notice her crash onto our TV screens as Faith, the Vampire Slayer and frankly, my world hasn’t really been the same since. Y’see, I had long thought my fangirling days were over pre-1998 but Eliza’s Faith inspired me to write, read fanfic and collect action figures, statues, plates and cards. I could no longer scoff at my brother’s Star Wars collection :/ Vulnerable, tough, street smart but lonely and seemingly unwanted by anyone around her – including Buffy – Faith was a homeless kid that needed help and had issues. I am not lying or exaggerating when I say I wanted to adopt her. Simply put, Eliza played Faith to perfection. Faith is now – and remains – my favorite character in any medium.

Eliza has moved on to different things during and after BtVS of course, including movies such as Bring It On, Wrong Turn and the recently released Alphabet Killer. Soon she will hit the small screen yet again as Echo in Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. If you think Joss is being nice and throwing Eliza a bone, however, think again. Eliza is producing the show and, in fact, was the one who asked M. Whedon aboard.

Dollhouse sounds a little Matrixy in that you can programme these ‘dolls’ to do anything and be anyone. From assassin to lover – you name it – it can be done. But…what if one of these ‘dolls’ starts remembering their assignments or keeps bumping into people who insist they know them? Hmm. *gulp* Tell me you’re not intrigued! I am and I know for a fact Eliza will rock Echo.

Indeed, one of the few things I agree with Joss Whedon on these days is Eliza’s acting range. She can be so much more than a sassy heroine in a tank top and I’ve always believed that. Whedon’s sharing this belief of of mine is why these ‘dolls’ can be anything. The show will allow Eliza and her fellow actors to tap into many emotions and feel out a slew of different character types. Aside from the whole ‘what will happen when she begins to remember’ slant, Dollhouse is interesting for this angle alone. This is one show that I am actually looking forward to!

Eliza as Faith Lehane

Not stopping with producing and kicking butt in Dollhouse, Eliza is starting up yet another project for big brother Nate to star. The actor/producer is developing a biopic of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who died in 1989 of complications from AIDS. He was quite controversial due to his blatant homo erotic work. (Look some up – your eyes will bug if you’ve never seen it before lol!)

According to Eliza, her brother bares an ‘uncanny resemblance’ to Robert. [I am not so sure]. This is not the first time Eliza has helped Nate out in the acting stakes by the way. Thanks to his little sister, Nate has scored jobs in Angel, Alphabet Killer and Tru Calling. Those were bit parts however, this is a starring gig and it’s sure to make some sort of splash simply due to the subject matter. I have to say, I’m intrigued by this project and interested to see how it will go.

  1. Ali..you totally rock! I was just writing this morning that Dollhouse sounds a lot like The Matrix but I think it will be better because of Eliza being in it. I am counting the hours until Friday.

  2. Here, here!

  3. Thanks so much Taylor <333 Yeah, Dollhouse def. seems to have a Matrixy element. I’m definitely looking forward to watching it. I’m enjoying the trailers so here’s hoping! :D
