My Advance Review of The Closer “Products of Discovery”

When I received my screener for the first episode of season five of TNT’s The Closer, I was eager to watch it. The first episode is called Products of Discovery and it guest stars Lee Tergesen. The episode will premiere on June 8th at 9 p.m., so mark your calendar with some sort of sparkly pen.

The official description of the episode:

When Brenda’s squad investigates the quadruple murder of a family, she accidentally stumbles into the middle of an FBI investigation that may have been a factor in the homicide. Meanwhile, Provenza’s ebullient mood has suddenly turned sour.

What I thought of Products of Discovery: This episode did not go where I expected it to go – there was nothing overly predictable. While there are twists and turns, nothing felt like an obvious twist just for the sake of shock value. Instead, the episode progresses in a natural way. Viewers will be rewarded if they pay attention to the tiny details which often come back around to play a larger part in the story.

I especially enjoyed the interactions between Brenda Leigh (Kyra Sedgwick) and Lt. Provenza (G.W. Bailey). Overall, this is another solid episode of The Closer.
