My Advance Review of “Royal Pains” (The New USA Network Show set in The Hamptons)
ROYAL PAINS centers on a young E.R. doctor who, after being wrongly blamed for a patient’s death, moves to the Hamptons and becomes the reluctant “doctor for hire” to the rich and famous. When the attractive administrator of the local hospital asks him to treat the town less fortunate, he finds himself walking the line between doing well for himself and doing good for others.
I was totally not expecting this show to come along (it wasn’t on my radar), but I’m so glad I gave it a chance once I heard about it. I watched the pilot, which is a generous 70 minutes long, and I enjoyed almost every single minute. You can’t usually say that about a pilot or any TV show – and I especially can’t usually say that. I’m a tough critic!
This is a really fun show that romps around The Hamptons, uses kicky music, and has some very smart dialogue (selected quotes are below). The fact that the plot synopsis plays out predictably doesn’t take away from any of the fun.
I will be following this show. I hope you will, too! It makes me smile. And we all could use more things that make us smile. And SofaChip has a Royal Pains giveaway for one lucky winner!
“You can’t leave right now, I’m on the verge of having a Roman Orgy with the entire cast of Gossip Girl.”
“So your Dad out’s of town and you totaled his Ferrari.” “Let’s avoid the Billy Joel jokes. He lives within earshot.”
“You have a bar of gold…and you’re chasing away supermodels. Imagine what would happen if we actually tried.”
“Don’t objectify me, sidekick.”
