SofaChip’s Advance Review of Weeds: “Machetes Up Top”
The second episode for Weeds season 5 is called Machetes Up Top. The special guest star for this episode is Jennifer Jason Leigh (who is delightful and awesome and everything great) as Jill – sounds like fun, huh? Not that Weeds isn’t usually a fun treat. And not that low-carb BS, we’re talking a treat like – a massive double fudge Sundae with little nuts and whipped cream. And you can try not to indulge, but why fight it? Weeds is just too good. So grab a spoon – and your remote, and dig into this episode when it airs on Monday!
Now, we know that Nancy is indeed pregnant for sure. And “Just because [she's] been a slutty, irresponsible, slutty, slut” Andy isn’t giving up on her.Which makes me happy! I love the way he loves her. Which sounds like lyrics to a bad song. But go with it.
Meanwhile, no one would pay for Celia’s (Elizabeth Perkins) ransom, which she found embarrassing and depressing. But Celia doesn’t leave Mexico.
One of Nancy’s least favorite people, Cesar, comes around. Not only does he want coffee, he wants to hang around. Or maybe ‘wants to’ wouldn’t be the right phrase. But it’s his job. Nancy has to find a way to get away though. This is to visit an old friend named Guillermo (Guillermo Diaz). He’s, of course, in jail – because of her. So, do you think he might be cranky?
A glimpse into the life of Nancy’s estranged sister, Jill Price-Gray, is frightening. She has twins who wear matching outfits! And they know way too much about catfish (especially compared to me – who only knows that they look freaky). Shane and Andy aren’t very happy to be visiting Jill. Although, it must be said that Shane and Andy do have some very enjoyable interaction whilst they’re there.
Alexander Gould as Shane is as talented as he was when he started years ago, and Justin Kirk as Andy is golden no matter what he does. I suspect that a video where you can watch him make a sandwich could be posted on YouTube and it’d get 1,000 hits in ten minutes. A note to the Weeds people? If you can’t make THAT happen, more instances where Andy has to improv speeches would be greatly appreciated. The one he delivers in Machetes Up Top to Jill is priceless.
For most of this episode Doug (Kevin Nealon) is in the local national forest with Silas (Hunter Parrish), and when he sees a butterfly and tells it to ‘alight upon me’ it’s the smallest moment of perfection EVER! However, right now, their storyline is the one that isn’t the strongest for me. But I predict this will change as Silas has some interesting plans for his life.
Misc. Notes to conclude my advance Machetes Up Top review:
- One of the character’s wants to be like Atticus Finch
- One of the character’s is preparing a living will
- One of the character’s expresses that they support gay marriage
- One of the character’s finds a place where their hair doesn’t frizz
- One of the character’s says ‘bitchface’ twice during sex
- One of the character’s has fish eat dead skin from their feet, and then pays for it (I heard this is a thing now)
