SofaChip’s Advance Review of the Nurse Jackie Episode “Sweet-N-All”

nurse-jackie

In this second episode of Nurse Jackie we get to see the dynamic between Jackie (Edie Falco) and her husband, which seems totally affectionate and amorous. Making love on a kitchen floor full of Fruity Pebbles doesn’t seem to be a problem.

But what’s more interesting than that is what Jackie does with Sweet-n-All. Hint: it involves drugs. She’s a very crafty one.

Another dynamic we see more of is between Jackie and the materialistic Doctor Elenor O’Hara (Eve Best). She’s funny because she’s…well, remember Karen on Will & Grace? She’s kinda like that. I’m not sure how they ever became friends, but it does make sense. They’re both confident, qualified, and good at what they do. But their priorities are very different. Jackie seems to know how ridiculous O’Hara is, and has to at times, handle her with kid-gloves (re: hotdogs for lunch).

Desperate Zooey (Merritt Wever)  is desperate to be liked and fit in. I find her equal parts annoying and endearing. The jury is out for the final decision. Sadly for Zooey, the past comes back to haunt us in this episode – in the form of an ear.

An overly goofy incident happens when the authorative Mrs. Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) drinks coffee with some of Jackie’s “special” Sweet-N-All laced with Percocet. I just didn’t find it all that funny, personally.

This is a solid episode: B
