I may not have loved the look styled for Gwen Stefani on the recent cover of Glamour, but I have an undeniable love for her anyway. It’s difficult to pick what my favorite Stefani songs are, but all of them put me in a good mood. That’s the perk of pop music. I think my favorite Gwen Stefani song would have to be Rich Girl featuring Eve. Even the music video for that song is amazing. “If I was rich girl (na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na nah)” – it’s just so catchy, you know? Gwen Stefani ring tones perk me up no matter who’s calling me.

It’s virtually impossible to hear, “A few times I’ve been around that track” without someone (or yourself) responding with, “So it’s not just gonna happen like that! Cause I ain’t no hollaback girl. I ain’t no hollaback girl!” That, of course, is the Stefani song Hollaback Girl. And it’s another gem of a song. I have What You Waiting For? (from Love.Angel.Music.Baby) on my iPod for when I want to work it on the treadmill.

Classic No Doubt songs include Rock Steady (Rock Steady), Spiderwebs (Tragic Kingdom), Just a Girl (Tragic Kingdom), Don’t Speak (Tragic Kingdom), Ex-Girlfriend (Return of Saturn), and Simple Kind of Life (Return of Saturn). I remember the first time someone introduced me to the Tragic Kingdom album at a sleepover. It felt like a revelation. So if you know any young girls who haven’t been introduced to Gwen Stefani yet, do them a favor and clue them into her. You’ll have good karma!

Of course, it’s not just the geekier guys who wear T-shirts. Dick Casablancas on Veronica Mars always had very, VERY memorable T-shirts. I can see him wearing one of these Cinco De Mayo T-Shirts. Especially one that says ‘por favor’ since, we all know Dick, he’ll probably forget how to say much else once he gets a bit too much to drink. No matter if it’s MLB Baseball T-Shirts, Robot Chicken T-Shirts, Jaws T-Shirts or Dr. Seuss T-shirts, the plain fact is: everyone loves a T shirt. They just do.

Aside from being classic, pearls are a great investment. Do you remember how Carrie always had signature token necklaces? I’ve actually been rewatching some of Sex and the City on DVD recently (the entire season comes in the prettiest pink suede book  – it’s difficult not to squee) and I realized that aside from the obvious ‘token’ necklaces that Carrie sometimes wore, she always had a necklace she was wearing a few times. Of course, like a real girl, some jewelry got worn more than once. Something we saw on her a lot was pearls, for sure.

And while the traditional long string of pearls is great to have, I think that Carrie Bradshaw would love a pearl lariat necklace, which is only a slight variation on the traditional look. Whatever she had, you can bet it was of great quality, like Mikimoto Pearls. You just know that she’d wear it with everything from a Prada dress to jean overalls. That’s just how she was. She wore what she liked and didn’t care about the haters (remember the Heidi shirt?). And she had a lovely life doing it. So embrace your inner Bradshaw, and thank yourself for being able to do it. No regrets – just fabulous fashion!

And a role model like Veronica Mars simply doesn’t get written into reality as often as she should. Seriously. We need her back.

D Don’t Date is a new-ish web series about ‘dating done wrong’. Which I, personally, might have titled ‘dating as done by half the population’ – but you get the point. Rom-Com’s where Kate Hudson ends up falling in love with the bad boy who then buys her all of Disney World does make for a cute movie. But as far as an indication of reality? Yea, it epically fails in that vein.

And while it might be nice to placate your romantic needs by pretending that you, too, could have a boyfriend as hot as Josh Hartnett and as sensitive as Josh Groban – it’s also nice to laugh and relate to the reality that is dating. It’s messy and weird, people lie, and sometimes the most action you get is from your creepy neighbor.

That’s what it’s like for D, who has a stunningly ordinary life. She doesn’t slay vampires, or fall in love with vampires, or even become a vampire. Really. So, why should you watch?

1. The title character is portrayed by an actress (Rosie Tisch) that is endlessly watchable, talented at making comedy work, reminds me of Sarah Chalke, and has awesome hair. (Why can’t I pull off a beehive-esque hairdo without looking like a loon? That’s just one more thing to put on my ‘why life is unfair’ list.)

2. The writing is witty and fresh. As someone who, er, writes – I can appreciate this. You do appreciate it too, even if you don’t realize it. When a movie or TV show has sub par writing, even a stellar cast can’t make it work. Much love to writer/creator/director (I believe that is called a triple threat!) Dayna McTavish.

3. You have nothing better to do because your lovelife ain’t so hot, either!

What I’ve compiled for you, dear readers, is what I now refer to as my PIDNAR list. The D is silent. Well, not overly-enunciated anyway. PIDNAR stands for People I Dislike For No Apparent Reason. I have no idea what happened to the F.

I think we as a pop culture nation spend a lot of time thinking and dreaming about our favorite stars. And in some cases tracking down home addresses from friends who work in the federal tax office. Um, not that I’ve ever done that. So while I love a good many famous people out there and I’ve spent what some might call an unhealthy amount of time obsessing over them, there are a few people that really bug me. This is where my PIDNAR list comes in. While I’m sharing personal details about my life (I’m also a Libra and enjoy putting soy sauce on everything I eat) I don’t mind sharing that list here with you today. Now, I’m not saying that I’d like to see these people on the next rocket ship to the moon, just that I dislike them and for no apparent reason. Let’s begin:

5.) Kirsten Stewart
I don’t know anything about this girl except that I dislike her. I feel that is enough.

4.) Hayden Panettiere
I believe Jessica is a fan so I hope she forgives me and understands that this is definitely not personal. Hayden Panerabread (what I tend to call her) is bright and pretty, she doesn’t spend all her nights doing whiskey shots at Prive, and by all accounts has a very solid future in acting ahead of her. So why don’t I like her? I wish I knew! She’s hasn’t done one little thing to offend me, yet here she is on my list. Maybe she’s too nice and sincere and a sarcastic, jaded girl like me doesn’t know how to deal with that.

3.) Nicole Richie
I think out of the Paris and Nicole duo most people preferred Nicole. I think most people would prefer a little case of the plague over Paris. They’re still friends I think, but Nicole has grown up and given up her bad girl ways. She’s become a mother, given up that whole anorexic thing, and has developed her own line of maternity-ware; she’s really turned her life around. So why do I really, really dislike her? I don’t know, but I dislike her more now than I ever did before. Maybe it’s because I don’t like people who give their kids three names? Or could it be that I just don’t like change and it’s hard for me when a much-loved skank becomes respectable? Oh, well. We’ll always have Paris.

2.) Milo Ventimiglia
Where to begin? He’s cute, he’s a good actor, he’s not a crack head, and he’s never, to my knowledge, slighted New Kids on The Block. So what’s not to like? I don’t know, but I don’t like him. I thought at first it was probably because I can’t pronounce his name to save my life. I’ve even had Jessica help me pronounce it and I still can’t. But there are other things I like even though I can’t pronounce their names. (Examples: Bebe clothing; the Turks and Caicos.) Well, then is it because he dated Hayden Panerabread and she’s on my list too? No, I don’t think so, I don’t discriminate by association. I just don’t like him. There is no reason.

1.) Megan Fox
Okay, this one I want on the rocket ship to the moon. I cannot stand this chick. I’ve never even seen Transformers and that other movie she was in, that Lindsey Lohan movie, Confession of a Teenage Alcoholic or whatever it was called. I’ve never seen Megan Fox act. So I can’t dislike her because of her acting skills. I haven’t seen them! Could I dislike her because she stole David Silver away from Donna? No, because that didn’t actually happen. Could I dislike her because she once cut in front of me at the DMV? No, that didn’t happen either.

But that’s totally something I think she would do! She always has this look on her face like she just stumbled into a toxic waste dump and she’s trying not to breathe in the fumes. But that’s not why I don’t like her. I think people will be quick to assume I don’t like her because she’s some overly exaggerated beauty and therefor I must be jealous but I don’t think that’s it either. I have a very pretty older sister (two actually) and a very pretty future sister-in-law, so I’m used to being the pale, homely girl.

Maybe I don’t like her because so far I haven’t seen one thing to make me like her. Not one warm and fuzzy interview, not one funny quote, not one silly and unassuming photo shoot. So maybe I DO know why I don’t like her. Because she’s so damn unlikeable! (Editor’s note: I found a totally valid reason to dislike Megan Fox)

One of my favorite ones is Ben’s Cocktail Hour where funny, drunk Ben, played by Iddo Goldberg, (upset over Hannah, no doubt) instructs us on how to make ‘Handjob on a Pier’. I feel like I shouldn’t find this funny – but you know what? It is anyway.

More than that, I love that he’s so broken up over Hannah. I’d say it were almost romantic if that wouldn’t be totally twisted to say. Okay, I said it anyway. …Oh please, like a girl can only go to Jane Austen novels for her romantic fix? A TV show about a prostitute can do just as well! ;p

However, I don’t exactly agree with TV Guide that you should be following the likes of Spencer Pratt, Kim Kardashian, or Diddy (is he no longer P Diddy – gasp!). I don’t think I’d ever voluntarily hang out with these people in real life, so I don’t feel the need to read what they’re Tweeting. Seriously – you can be ridiculously famous, but that doesn’t mean you’re interesting. The two do not always go hand in hand.
