Penelope Cruz...yowza!

Penelope Cruz was promoting too projects on The Jay Leno Show, and she had to earn her plug for one of them by teaching Jay to dance. Cruz played up the moment to embarrass Leno, and he did it gladly. Well, I guess he really needs the ratings!

I haven’t followed this show very closely in a long, long while. I personally miss Lana and Lex (not together, just on the show). And I always liked Clark and Lana, so it’s hard for me to see Lois and Clark together even though I know that’s canon to Superman. It just doesn’t feel like it can ever feel canon to this particular show. Yikes.

OLIVER TAKES DC COMICS’ CHARACTER SPEEDY UNDER HIS WING — Oliver (Justin Hartley) tries to help a young street girl, Mia AKA Speedy (guest star Elise Gatien), get out of her dangerous life by offering to train her, but Mia double crosses him.  Lois (Erica Durance) asks Clark (Tom Welling) to help her land a job as an on-air television host, but the two are shocked when the station wants to hire them as a team. 1) When Kristin Chenoweth won her Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Pushing Daisies - RIP!) she began thanking people only to mention, “I’m unemployed now, so I’d like to be on Mad Men,” she said. “I also like The Office and 24.” Us too, Kristin! And we’ve love to see her on any of those, especially The Office.  Watching her cry during her acceptance speech actually makes ME a little teary. Oh, man!

2) The red dresses! From Hayden Panettiere to Blake Lively, starlets wore red gowns that were drop dead gorgeous. That’s why you have to watch the pre-show to start oogling the fashion right away. Pick up one of those free Sprint phones and get texting!

3. Dr Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris) from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog hijacking the awards! He called us couch monkeys! As he sings, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) stands up for TV. And then we saw Felicia Day!

4. Joss Whedon won an Emmy. This? This makes me cry happy tears. “Thank you, we are honored to accept the award for most incomprehensible category,” he joked. Another small gem quote in his short speech: “The greatest expression of rebellion is joy.”

Anyway! The episode Steak Knife had the cutest baby EVER, and Mrs. Akalitus (a name possibly chosen just to make me go crazy as I try to type it properly) took a shine to him/her. The thing is, I completely understand why it’s interesting to give the broad comedy to the most stern of all characters in the cast, but there’s such a thing as overkill. Without fail, Mrs. Akalitus seems to get every ‘most ridiculous thing’ thrown at her. You’ll see this throughout the end of season one, and it grew on my nerves. I’d like to see this character played a little more as she’s supposed to be, and not just as what might be funny. Because ultimately, overusing this tactic takes away the power of the funny!

Cooper has now cemented himself in my mind as a total jerk. (And he only seems to go mostly downhill in my eyes.) Seriously. I was on the fence about him, willing to give him a chance! But right after he says he’s not a dick, he goes and acts like one. Typical, pft.

If we skip ahead one episode it brings us to the episode Nose Bleed.  In this eppy you’ll see Jackie being devious, and that is highly enjoyable to watch. I think the major topic of this episode revolves around how strange it is when it’s only by being unethical that you can do the right thing. Is that what they call a paradox? Irony? I just call it strange.

What else? Someone in this episode is a MAJOR gossip. The other standout in this episode is that one of my favorite onscreen friendships is finally tested, and it’s not all sunshine and flowers by the end of the episode.

Episode 110 of Nurse Jackie is Ring Finger, wherein Jackie has trouble with her wedding ring.  This is where I started to truly question our main character’s sanity, and after this there’s only got two more episodes left until we have to wait for season 2 of Nurse Jackie!

So, in these last two episodes (Pill-O-Matix & Health Care and Cinema) we finally see Eddie being replaced. Anyone think that’s going to go over well? Yea, not so much. Other than that, Zoey messes up in a significant way with guest star Victor Garber, O’Hara finally needs a real favor, Gloria gets stuck in an elevator, and there is a really horrible literal joke involving someone’s gut.

Aside from not being a fan of the ‘comedic situations’ Akalitus is put in, I enjoyed watching all of these episodes. The dark tone of the show never waivers, the characters have mostly wormed their respective ways into my heart, and by the season one finale I’m ready to jump into the inevitable (glorious) chaos of season two.

P.S. I don’t know why I was putting off Showtime’s Dexter, but I finally started watching season 1 on Netflix Instant Watch, and I am totally drawn into it!

Why is it that The CW has picked up shows such as Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place, and The Beautiful Life, but they are so hesitant about the real winner – Body Politic? This causes me no end of grief! Not only does the show star Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars, Moonlight), but it also has Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Jay Hernandez, Gabrielle Union (Bring it On) and Jenny Wade (Reaper). Need more than that? Not only do I love the cast, but from what I’ve seen of the show – it looks highly watchable!

There is buzz for Body Politic, but it seems like the show might not ever see the light of day. Fans seem eager to see Minka Kelly and Jason Dohring on TV together. But there’s only one slot for a mid season replacement, and it might not go to this show!

Possibly the best write-up on Body Politic is from Eonline.com (read that link!). Writer Natalie Abrams outlines all of the known info on the characters and plots, what the chances of Body Politic getting picked up are, and why people will like the show – not to mention why we need a show like this on The CW.

I would like to heavily echo her last statement in the article: The very few clips we have posted below do not do the pilot justice; however, you can make a difference by passing on the word about The Body Politic and sounding off… Beg, plead, get angry! Show Dawn Ostroff that The Body Politic would be a great addition to the network.

Before you make up your mind, please take a few minutes to watch the Body Politic trailer. Remember how great The WB used to be with shows like Dawson’s Creek and Felicity? We need a show like that. Why does The CW only want to only revamp old shows like 90210? Eugh!

UPDATE: I came across Jenny Wade’s YouTube channel and as of a couple weeks ago she said that The CW seems uninterested in the show but they are shopping it to ABC and NBC.

Party Down fans can rejoice because Kristen Bell is probably going to be returning as her character Uda Bengt. (Kristen Bell on Party Down source) Ryan Hansen said of Bell, “I’ll drug her and drag her in, and we’ll just prop her up.”  Bell and Hansen are, of course, very good friends who actually live together. They also worked on another Rob Thomas show, you may have heard of it – VERONICA MARS??

But is a Veronica Mars movie likely? According to Kristen Bell, not very. Ausiello reports:

Question: Your lack of reporting on the Veronica Mars movie has me feeling like it’s DOA. Any news on it? — Andrew
Ausiello: Yep, but it ain’t good. At last weekend’s Saturn Awards, Kristen Bell told us, “I don’t think it will ever happen, and here’s why: [Series creator] Rob Thomas and I had a powwow, and we were both 100 percent on board. We took our proposal to Warner Bros. and Joel Silver told us that there is no enthusiasm [there] to make a Veronica Mars movie, and that is unfortunately a roadblock we cannot compete with.” But — like the rest of us, I suspect — she isn’t giving up hope. “Maybe if we bombard them with letters?” she suggests. “Maybe [then] they will change their tune.” What are you waiting for, a written invitation from Veronica Mars herself? Start bombarding Warner Bros. with letters!

I have no idea why they don’t want to give us our movie. Does Joel Silver need us to wait a million years like they did for the Buffy movie, and then have to have a different cast? No one wants that. No one! I asked everyone. Veronica Mars fans want this movie. Kristen Bell wants the movie! Kristen is what the industry would call ’super hot’ – so what are they waiting for?

Word is blessedly solid on Kristen Bell in the musical adaptation of the cult movie Heathers (Winona Ryder, Christian Slater) at least. And lots of people are liking the trailer for Couples Retreat. And while I hope Kbell does have time to eat and sleep, we need more projects!

It’s America’s birthday today., so we should get news of a VM movie today. Come on, do it for America! (And now I’m having weird flashbacks of that one scene/song in Grease 2 about doing it for your country. You know the one. No, it’s not this one.)
