TV Stars Shining at a Prada Party

TV Stars Shining at a Prada Party

Omg.yahoo.com has posted pictures from a recent Prada party. TV stars there included David Boreanaz, Jessica Capshaw, Becki Newton, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg. Here’s my take on what we can see!

Jessica and David

This picture shows David Boreanaz of Fox’s Bones (Bones - The Complete Second Season), next to Jessica Capshaw who has also been on Bones as Booth’s (David’s) former flame, and the mother to his son. Jessica’s dress here is gorgeous, but it’s her hair that has me really envious. I love how it is styled without looking overly-coiffed. Jessica has a great glow, and I’m not sure if we should attribute that to a nice mixture of well-applied blush and bronzer (you have to do both!) or just being next to David.

David is married so he’s not making any moves, but he really looks like a gentleman here - a suave, charming one, at that. I love how he has his arm around Jessica, and is leaning in. He looks dashing, and I wish he were on my arm.

The 2008 SAG Red Carpet: An Interactive

The 2008 SAG Red Carpet: An Interactive “Where’s Waldo?”

The 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were last night. In the post below, my fellow Sofachip writer wrote about the serious side of the event. Therefore, I’m going to gossip about the red carpet interviews and clothes. Why? Because I’m a girl. And I enjoy being a girl. And I also feel the obsessive need to mock the Desperate Housewives. Can you stop with the interrogation now and let me get on with it? Geez!

People were milling around the red carpet with their escorts and bodyguards, while the press tried to grab onto anyone who’d been on the cover of a magazine in the past year. There were some great dress choices - with an emphasis on white sparkly numbers, and the color yellow.

Ana Ortiz of Ugly Betty couldn’t walk up steps in her dress, and had to hop sideways. That was entertaining. Though she did it with a sweet smile, I can’t help but wonder why she would pick that impracticable dress? Oh wait. It’s Hollywood. Nevermind…

Ausiello of TVguide.com caught up with Becki Newton of Ugly Betty. She was eager to sing a bit of the song from the Ugly Betty finale (which I wrote about here), and even got Ausiello to reluctantly sing a bit. Becki has a sarcastic sense of humor, but easily navigates her way through interviews with gracious answers when she needs to.But then she’s right back to hilarious comments. As for what she’s been doing during the strike, she said, “A lot of family time, a lot of cooking, a lot of hanging out.” She had her blonde hair down - curled in waves, and was wearing a white/silvery sparkly gown.

Also on the red carpet was the annoying Lisa Rinna. She took a stab at interviewing Tina Fey (pictured right). Tina is cooler than most people, so it goes without saying that she’s cooler than Lisa. Tina won for outstanding actress in a comedy series for 30 Rock. When asked where she was going to put her trophy, she said: “Up high, where my daughter can’t get it – because this thing is a baby-crusher.”

I was going to comment on Lisa interviewing Eva Longoria, but honestly it was too boring to watch. And don’t people get tired of flattering each other in such grossly fake ways? Compliments are fine, but when they’re so insincere and exaggerated it just feels cheap. (Like your coat, where’d you get that thing? Oh, I’m just kidding, I haven’t had anything to eat yet so I’m grumpy. Can we get omelets around the corner? You pay? I gave my wallet to a puppy.)

This is how too many of the fake conversations go (they’re practically scripted):

Notes: My subtext became text along the way. Oops?/ Beware, you’re about to enter a snarky zone.

Interviewer: Hi, you’re amazing!

Actor/Actress: Thanks, so are you!

Interviewer: Oh, you are so nice. But really, I love you. You’re my single favorite actor/actress out of all the other 300 ones here.

Actor/Actress: Thanks. (Subtext: I don’t even know who you are, are you famous? I’ll just nod and pretend that I do cause you’re acting like you’re important.)

Interviewer: So, who are you wearing?

Actor/Actress: Oh, blib-a-blah. I really like what they’re doing with their new line. It’s all made from mud. You just wear mud. It’s amazing. I feel so amazing. And green. I mean, you know, helping the earth? It’s like a calling. I just feel so much more spiritual in these clothes.

Interviewer: Wow. That’s so cool. I can’t wait to try some. Is it supposed to be exposing your left nipple like that?

Actor/Actress: Oh, probably. *Giggle* Can I go now, I want to be seen talking to a more important person.

Interviewer: Sure, go on, you’re fabulous! Fabulous. Now, have you seen that actress from that show about the cheating Amish husband? Heavyset Love?

Amanda's Milkshake Brought her Father to the Yard (Eww...not like that!)

Amanda’s Milkshake Brought her Father to the Yard (Eww…not like that!)

On tonight’s episode of Ugly Betty (the season finale) Amanda (Becki Newton) decided to sing a song for her father, now that she’s found out who he is. (Click to read after the jump to see who it is! Plus, see some bonus Amanda goodies.)
Waving those hands in the air ‘like she just don’t care’, and being videotaped as to be able to post it on YouTube, she belted out a song that she wrote.

Amanda may not be graced with what you’d call the best voice, but boy does she ever have a winning spirit. I’m positive American Idol would put her through (she’s more entertaining than half of their other contestants).

She sang earlier in 2007 at a wedding, where she picked the most soulful and romantic, dare I say obvious, song choice for a wedding: Milkshake by Kelis (Kelis Was Here).

Will I leave you in the lurch? Please. I know you want to check that out:

Is it the Walk, Wardrobe, or Attitude? Why do I love Amanda on Ugly Betty?

Is it the Walk, Wardrobe, or Attitude? Why do I love Amanda on Ugly Betty?

Actress Becki Newton portrays one of my favorite heroes on TV as Amanda Tanen on Ugly Betty. I mean, she’s not exactly a hero in the most traditional of terms. But she’s a champion for the stylish, and the motto: ignorance is bliss. In other words, she’s fabulous and fun to watch.

Just looking pretty with a great wardrobe doesn’t make a standout character. If it did I guess Paris Hilton would be respected or something, huh?

A character has to have layers if you want viewers to generate interest in them - and boy does Amanda have layers. Things have been being revealed little by little that give Amanda a textured dynamic. On this, Newton has said, “What started as a superficial nasty girl is now the nightmare insecure girl at the office - we get to see why Amanda is the way she is, I was happy sitting at a desk snarling at everyone. The fact I get to do more is icing on the cake.”

Amanda says things that you probably can’t believe anyone would really say (I work as a style and beauty writer as well, and the fashionista girls I know really aren’t like this). Becki has Amanda say them with a dramatic flair - like a spoiled twelve-year-old who whines and then throws herself back onto an over-sized pink canopy bed.

This bubbly femme is also viciously bitchy, often with a facade of niceness that heightens the humor of a moment.

Amanda: So, I hear Daniel gave you a big writing assignment.
Betty: Yes, it’s really exciting. It’s my first one.
Amanda: Well, word of advice - you may want to take the Betty-wear down just a notch.
The human pinata look may be all the rage in Queens, but in SoHo they’ll arrest you for crimes against humanity. Have fun!

She also reminds me of our girls from Sex and the City.

Amanda: “Oh my God, if that showerhead could pay my bills I would marry it. “

Reminding me why Clueless was such a hit movie, Amanda is also ditzy at times.

Amanda: “It’s magic. And like science, you don’t have to understand it, you just have to believe it.”
