The New Kathy Reichs Novel is Coming Out in August (”Bones” Inspiration)
Monday’s episode of Bones was (and I don’t want to oversell this) SUPER-FREAKING-FANTASTIC. Aside from that thought, could you help from noticing how often Bones’ books were mentioned? I don’t think this was a ploy, I think it made sense in the story. But it did get me interested in following-through on actually reading the books by Kathy Reichs that inspired this TV show. Inspired by, based on? I think it gets a little muddled, from what I hear the books are different, even though the character is named Temperance Brennan, just as on the show. I don’t think I will mind, though - because the study of forensic anthropology is interesting.
The first book Reichs’ wrote about Brennan (published in 1997) is called Déjà Dead. The latest book (out in August 2008) is called Devil Bones. I suppose I’ll want to read them in order, so I won’t get to that one for a bit. Oh well!
Bones (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) have great (I don’t want to say ‘chemistry’…) vibrations between them, that the end of the episode really picked at our emotions.
Fox TV is doing well.
If you’ve read any of these novels, what do you think of them?

A Bones Podcast, The Squint Squad!

My wonderful friend, Crystal, along with her friend, Logan (whom I don’t know, but will assume is equally wonderful), have started a Bones podcast. You can access it at bonespodcast.mypodcast.com. In their second podcast, they had way too much fun saying ‘phalanges’. As you know, I enjoyed that part in the show when I talked about Bones’ Logical Guide to Babies.
If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll enjoy listening to Crystal and Logan talk about it. You can interact with them (they’re not robots - as far as I know!) by sending e-mails (listed on the above site) or joining their livejournal site right here (clicky!).
Crystal has revealed that one of her favorite episodes of Bones is The Skull in the Desert, which is also a favorite of mine. It’s gorgeous, because it’s filmed in the desert - so it’s all deserty…desertish? (Man, now I want some dessert. I had Vanilla Bean Cheesecake this past weekend and it was super yum.) I especially love that they use a Patty Griffin song within this episode.
Ironically, one of my other top favorite episodes is also one of Crystal’s - The Man in the Morgue. When I saw this episode I felt like it was more akin to a movie than a TV show. That is the episode that takes place in New Orleans. This episode is spooky, and it further shows the evolving relationship between (protective) Booth and Bones.
Logan, I don’t mean to not give you love, we just don’t have the same favorites! Anyway, you guys should tune into the Squint Squad podcast. According to their motto: It’s gonna be fun. Trust us.

Bones Wants Us to Show Her Our Phalanges!

Tonight on Fox we had new episodes for House and Bones. The people on Bones really know what they’re doing - because Bones + a baby = hilarity.
Bones’ Logical Guide to Babies
— Elephants are not purple. You should not give a baby a purple elephant unless you are trying to trick them. And why would you be trying to trick a baby?
— Another toy you should not give to a baby is a bear. In reality a bear would devour a small child. You need to teach the child to fear a bear.
— When the baby is complaining, offer some visual and auditory stimulation.
— When all else fails, make your phalanges dance! DANCING PHALANGES. (If you are like Booth, you may not realize that your phalanges are your fingers.)
Instead of “Show me the money!” we should say, “Show me your phalanges!”

TV Show Mom’s Say the Darndest Things (Mom Quotes!)
Upon discovering Postcards From Yo Momma I have felt uplifted that I am not the only one with a crazy mother. I suppose this is nice timing (I can’t actually say I planned this) since Mother’s Day is fast approaching. I had to google the day myself. For anyone who may have forgotten and are asking themselves ‘when is Mother’s Day anyway?’ - worry no more: it’s on Sunday, May 11th for 2008. But as for a Mother’s Day gift, that’s up to you. And here’s some wise, kind advice: no one wants another coffee mug.
This post is similar to one I did about The Office, remember that? If not, that’s why we have tags! Basically, I’m taking the actual real quotes, and then assigning a TV character to match. It’s a fun game to learn and play. So, hereeee we go!
I must love you
This will be the title of all my e-mails from now on, since everything you ask me to do is a royal pain in the ass.
Could have been said by: Joy Lass from Dead Like Me (actress Cynthia Stevenson). Ever so cynical, you know she’d be a difficult mom to deal with.
Passover
Dear Sweetie Pie,
I have acquired a beautiful yet practical blue, gold, and clear glass seder plate for the [xxx] family. It is the kind I would choose for myself: artistic yet easy to wash, not too heavy, and having no crevices for food to stick to. It’s too bad they won’t have it for the first night of Passover. I hope they don’t go out and buy one. Can you hint that they won’t have to after Sunday? It would be a shame.
I hope your day went well and without travail.
Did [xxx] get my email?
Love, MOM
Could have been said by: Emily Gilmore from Gilmore Girls (actress Kelly Bishop). Specific, ridiculous requests have always been her specialty.
Aspertame
In my previous email, I forgot to mention the article about aspertame was under-previous columns.
You should also read the article on fungus.
Could have been said by: Temperance Brennan from Bones (actress Emily Deschanel) if she was a mom right now.
Jewlez CD
Hey,
I got a package from Jewlez (or something name like that today from Florida.) I opened it and it was a brand new Doors CD. I have not ordered a Doors CD. Did any of you? With the way things are, I wanted to follow-up to make sure no one is using my name/ID.
Well, if you solve the mystery, you get a prize. (No, it is not a trip to Hawaii, but it could be a very nice dinner at Applebee’s.
Also, Maisie has to have expensive surgery next week. Taz is ugly and your dad snores. My life is rich beyond words.
LOVE TO YOU ALL!
MOM
Could have been said by: Regina from Samantha Who? (actress Jean Smart). She is the type to drone on about her problems, be a tiny bit clueless, and then also say something sarcastic that makes you love her.

Theories for the “Bones” Season Finale!
Ausiello has this on TVGuide.com: Get used to the name “Vincent Juarez.” I suspect we may be seeing a lot of him next season. He’s one of Dr. Brennan’s brighter grad students and he’ll be joining the Squints until Brennan can find a new full-time forensic anthropologist. The yet-to-be-cast character loves to lighten the mood in the lab, but he definitely thinks he’s funnier than he actually is. In other words, it’s Nicholas Brendon’s role to lose. In related news, does anyone know why Bones would be looking for a new full-time forensic anthropologist? Hmmm…
