Dr. Temperance Brennan of the Fox TV Show Bones Doesn’t Like Purple Elephants, so she Probably Wouldn’t Like Red Turtles, Right?

I stumbled upon the Duckcloth Blog today. DuckCloth sells fabrics in different prints which is all kinds of fun and I wish I could sew - and since I have a sewing machine, you’d think I could (it’s all a rouse!) The patterns available include some animal prints (yay, animals). When I saw them the very first thing I thought of was Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) of Bones. Even when it comes to babies, she doesn’t very much like the thought of animals being depicted illogically - as we learned in the episode Baby in the Bough.

But I think they’re great fun. I’m especially loving the French Poodles. It combines my love of girlish glee, animals, and all things French! I’m sure Bones would say that animals do not want to wear full outfits, or even little bows. She might also point out that pigs don’t stand upright, and turtles are not red - “…except for the rare so-and-so turtle with a red-spotted shell. Which a baby would never be near unless they somehow were abandoned in an African cave in the 1800’s.” Well, that’s what I picture her saying! If you can think of other quotes that Bones might say about the way cartoon animals are depicted on blankets, as toys, etc - share them in a comment!
Turtles probably aren’t in Africa, huh?

Monday’s episode of Bones was (and I don’t want to oversell this) SUPER-FREAKING-FANTASTIC. Aside from that thought, could you help from noticing how often Bones’ books were mentioned? I don’t think this was a ploy, I think it made sense in the story. But it did get me interested in following-through on actually reading the books by Kathy Reichs that inspired this TV show. Inspired by, based on? I think it gets a little muddled, from what I hear the books are different, even though the character is named Temperance Brennan, just as on the show. I don’t think I will mind, though - because the study of forensic anthropology is interesting.
