J.J. Abrams Strikes me as a Fanboy, So I Love Him 3x’s More
Okay, I know I just posted videos for Dollhouse, but I don’t want to waste time in posting this awesome video for Fringe with series creator J.J. Abrams. I want to thank TVGuide.com for the video, and from that link you can also read more with Abrams.
What can you tell from the video? Well, I don’t know how keen you are (kidding) but what I sense (and have sensed since Felicity aired) is that J.J Abrams is a man of enormous creative talent. You might know his name in association with the TV shows Alias, Lost, or the movie Cloverfield. Now he’s bringing us his new show, Fringe. Abrams is a fan of mysteries (at least I think this is a fair guess) and he’s rethinking his methods of how he develops and shows them.
Even if you never watched Cloverfield, I bet you know what it is, and you were interested in it - talking about it with friends in the car or strangers online because of that amazing viral marketing campaign that they had. It pulled you into it, like uh - well, substitute your own brand of metaphor here.
Alias was frickin’ amazing and powerful in the first two (or three) seasons. After that, it did lose some of the magic, the center didn’t hold (yes I’m thinking of both a Sylvia Plath poem and a scene from Bones as I type that). There were too many things going on, people were confused, and you lost what made the show so great at the beginning. When it ended, there was a bit more of a sigh of relief than anything else.
Abrams realized that Alias didn’t end as well as it could have, I’m guessing, which is why he advance-planned the date for the end of Lost. And Lost, as all fans know, has more than its fair share of mysteries. Giving Lost an end-date tells people to hang on, it tells them there is a specific plan. With a show like that, that really helps. They can set the pacing.
Another thing that stands out to me, about Abrams, is how passionate he is about his projects. I think he’s a fanboy himself. He’s humble, he wears cute glasses, and well - I’m just a big fan! I’m curious to hear what you guys think of what Fringe will be. Are you excited to see it? Don’t you want to watch just to see Joshua Jackson back on TV? (Or is the Joshua thing just a me-thing?)

What I Did on My Summer Vacation: Comic Con ‘08 (Inside: Supernatural, Fringe, Joss Whedon Encounter)
Vicarious Living Makes My Skin Glow
Let’s be clear, first off. Little ol’ me? I didn’t actually attend the San Diego Comic Con ‘08. But I have been able to experience the con in my own way (which I know can’t measure up to actually being there, but still). This got me thinking about how I hear people say that we’re less interactive as a society in this age, how we’re isolated, and so forth. But maybe those cheesy ads for companies with the message of how the Internet brings us together to communicate is actually more relevant than I’d realized.
For those of us who didn’t get to attend Comic Con, and let’s be honest - not every fan (or super fan) could go, we’re still able to find ways to appreciate it. From pictures that are flooding message boards and websites, items for sale on eBay, YouTube vidoes of panels, or even official panels - the Con has expanded past California.
As soon as NBC.com released official videos for The Office and Heroes I was e-mailed a link and I posted them for you guys as I watched. I watched the Supernatural panel on YouTube - and it’s hilarious so I advise you do the same if you’re even a semi-fan of the show. Oh, a certain spoiler I said here turned out to be a prank pulled by Eric Kripke! He got us good. Sabotage!
(Anyone wanting info on Jared Padalecki’s upcoming film Friday the 13th can check out what Empress Eve wrote at GeeksofDoom.com. Very cool site, btw.)
I highly encourage you to check out what the amazing Cynthia at SFUniverse.com has written so far about the SPN (Supernatural) Con interviews she had. The Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles interviews are up to view so far. Stick around the site to read lots of other cool stuff. I keep thinking I’m not a fan of Sci-Fi, but then one of my friends will be like, “Hey, stop me when I name a Sci-Fi show you don’t like. Heroes. Firefly. Dollhouse. That Muppets in Space book.” … Okay, so I like them all. Is it time to start calling myself a Sci-Fi fan?

Dollhouse isn’t out yet, but I’m really pretty sure I’ll love it. At least I’m hoping I will. I have doubts that are trying to tug at me, but I’m not going to even consider them until I’ve at least seen one episode to start garnering some real opinions that I can back up with more than just news, possible spoilers, and a few previews that I’ve seen on YouTube. But, if you do want to indulge your doubts (and start bracing) Brian on SFUniverse.com has written a fair assessment of facts surrounding the show. For Con info about Dollhouse, Justine at Tahmohpenikett has you very well covered.
Meeting Joss Whedon: The Man, The Myth, The Musical-Lovin’ Genius
Anyway, another aspect of the Con is hearing the the stories you get from people who were there. My friend, Myk, attended Comic Con and he had a very fun story for me when he got back. He was in the Watchmen panel, and as he was leaving he got a nifty surprise. Most people were too busy about rushing out to apparently spot Nathan Fillion or Joss Whedon walking out with them. To be fair, they were doing an inconspicuous act.

Foxs’ Fringe Preview! (So Many Reasons to Love J.J. Abrams and Joshua Jackson)
Once I knew the combination of the names J.J. Abrams and Joshua Jackson (another J.J. - ha, yea, I’m sure I’m not the first to notice that) were coming together for a show, I was on board for Fringe. It’s the new Fox TV show. It’s sort of like Alias meets Lost, although that’s too simple of an explanation. And that’s only explaining the vibe of the show. That is to say, there’s lots of overwhelming mystery, and probably a decent amount of cliffhangers in store for us. Can you stand it?! I am so ready to swoon over Joshua Jackson, again. Oh, Dawson’s Creek, you’ve been gone too long.
But I’m no longer an angsty teen who needs to watch (only) angsty teen shows. I’m now in the CIA, covering up uh…things, so that’s what I can relate to. And that’s why I must watch Fringe!
When you’re a CIA operative it’s so hard to find a decent TV show to relate to. Sigh. (Wanna see my very real, and very glittery badge? I made it in photoshop!)
When an unlikely trio uncovers a deadly mystery involving a series of unbelievable events, they discover it may be part of a larger, disturbing pattern that blurs the line between science fiction and technology on FRINGE airing TUE 9/8c this fall on FOX.

Kristen Bell Looking Like Diane Kruger in a Creepifying Way
Kristen Bell (Heroes, Veronica Mars) in Peach Magazine looks eerily like Diane Kruger:

Speaking of Diane Kruger, as I understand it (and who knows how well I understand anything!) Kruger was going to be in Moonlight, but then backed out - seems like a good call since the show has now been canceled. And I completly understand why. Not even Jason Dohring could get me to watch that after two episodes.
Kruger dates Joshua Jackson, who will be in the new J.J. Abrams Fox tv show, Fringe. Yay! Two cute pictures of the couple after the jump.
You guys - let me know if the season three finale of Supernatural KILLEDYOUDEAD cause I am going to arrange some group therapy! Oh, Dean!
Today is a day to listen to Veruca Salt songs as loud as possible, wear green eye shadow, and drink sugary lemonade that makes you lick your lips after every sip. (Oh, and to catch up on Greek!)

Will We Wish that Peter Bishop (Fringe) and Elle Bishop (Heroes) are Related?
Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek) will be back on TV this fall, on the Fox show Fringe. The sci-fi show has J.J. Abrams named attached to it. Jackson will be playing Peter Bishop, a high-IQ’d dude who dropped out of High School and has some gambling problems. (I don’t know why I want to call him a dude. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Supernatural.)

The Hollywood Reporter says: “The two-hour $10 million pilot, directed by Alex Graves, centers on FBI agent Olivia Warren (Anna Torv) who teams with Peter Bishop (Jackson) and his estranged father, institutionalized scientist Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena.”
Personally? I’m excited. I’m a big fan of Jackson, and the show’s concept sounds intriguing.
This show is not a crossover with Heroes, but I’m sure some creative fans will enjoy the name link of Elle Bishop (Kristen Bell) on Heroes with Peter Bishop (Jackson). I mean, come on, don’t make me be the only one! They could be twins, or at least siblings! He could investigate her, and then be all shocked (!) to discover the blood ties. This would lead him to challenge his role in life, his job, and his purpose. And vice versa - cause as much as we love Elle to be bad, she could find redemption! Do I hear fanfiction writers already typing?
