The Office Comic Con Panel: The Video and My Noteworthy Notes

NBC has graciously posted the San Diego Comic Con panel for The Office. You can view it at NBC.com, or just watch it below! I took notes as I watched it, so my observations and highlights are below. Feel free to discuss the show with me, or you can just read what I thought were the highlights if you don’t have time to watch the entire thing. (It runs approx. 50 minutes.)

For those who are jumping ahead to read my notes: Rainn Wilson was the MC of the event, and other writers were at the panel. This included B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling, who you know as Ryan and Kelly on the show. It looks like the entire show has an amazing writing family.

Wilson was asked how he felt as the official sex symbol for The Office, and he said: “I feel great about that. Eat my shorts, John Krasinski!” Wilson let the writers do most of the rest of the talking. Which was great, because, as they write for a hilarious show - they’re all hilarious. Who knew? Psh!

Totally Obsessed: The Tudors, Secret Diary of a Callgirl, Supernatural, and WAY More

Totally Obsessed: The Tudors, Secret Diary of a Callgirl, Supernatural, and WAY More

Hello! I decided to interview myself. (Yes, you read that right.) That’s just the kind of wacky thing I do. That’s how I got my nickname ‘wacky-doer-of-things-Jessica’.

Sofachip: So, Jessica, what is it that you’ve been watching these days - besides what you’ve mentioned on Sofachip already?

Jessica: A crazy amount of goodness that fills me up with all the angst, joy, and vitamins I need.

SC: But you didn’t answer - What exactly have you been watching, though? What did you watch today?

Jessica: Fine, fine. I’ll speak. I currently have Supernatural season one on DVD which I’ve been watching and just flat-out adoring. I just watched the Bloody Mary episode about an hour ago. See, I had seen most of the first half of the season, but not the rest. I saw the majority of season two, and all of season three. So I wanted to go back - it’s very rewarding to have seen the recent episodes and then go back to the initial ones and see how it all started. Also, these DVDs are honestly possibly the best DVDs I’ve ever seen in terms of TV shows on DVD.

SC: Why is that?

The Men Pen, A Scam or Real? Would John Krasinksi Use It?

The Men Pen, A Scam or Real? Would John Krasinksi Use It?

Okay, I feel like it has to be a joke. What am I talking about? Keep up, already! I’m talking about the website (and product) The Men Pen. It’s the concealer for men. The website says, “This is the same product that male actors and models use in their everyday life and on photo shoots.” Wow. That’s preeeeetty impressive.

I understand that male actors and models wear makeup for taping shows and taking photos, but I sincerely doubt that most wear makeup in their everyday life. Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe John Krasinksi (The Office) commonly says things like, “Hey, let’s run to the grocery store, just let me grab my shoes and my Men Pen for a quick touch-up.” But I think I’ll go with no, he does not do this!

Some of the website makes it seem like a joke, other things make it seem real. I googled it online and it’s even listed on Bizrate. It’s also listed on Easier.com. But it can’t be too hard to make such a bad website, create some fake e-mails and a toll-free number. I mean, I’ve done that a thousand times…! (kidding) What do you think? Is this a real product? It’s either a really elaborate ruse, or the most pathetic thing ever. Which reminds me of that scene from Friends where Chandler ’stalks’ Janice to a store near where she lives and she’s giving him this long speech where neither option is good and then she goes, “So which of these two guys do you wanna be?” Ha.

Here’s a scarier question, if it is real, are there really guys out there using it? Does it feel more manly to use this than something from Maybelline? I’m picturing a great 80’s-esque commercial of a two girls whispering about a hot guy, and then one turns to the camera, whispering (loudly) to the audience and says, “Maybe it’s Maybelline, maybe it’s The Men Pen!”

Will “The Saint” Return to TV?

The Saint may be coming back to TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter. To track his origins we have to travel back in time, lucky for us I’ve brought my pink convertible that time travels and never gets dirty. Hop on in! (Sorry, my TV boyfriend of the day, John Krasinski from The Office, already called shot gun.)

In 1962 Roger Moore (you know him as James Bond) was Simon Templar, aka The Saint. In 1979 Ian Ogilvy was the new Saint in The Return of the Saint. In 1989 Simon Dutton was in a TV movie version of The Saint. In 1997 Val Kilmer took up the role in the movie The Saint, alongside the whimsically adorable Elizabeth Shue. And in 2008, it looks like we may see Simon Templar yet again. And he hasn’t aged at all. Is he using Botox?

James Purefoy

The question to ask is, who will portray Simon Templar this time? Possibly James Purefoy. Purefoy played Mark Antony in the TV show Rome. You might also know him from the movies A Knight’s Tale and Resident Evil.
There was an attempt to revive The Saint TV show in 2000, and 2004. So, this particular attempt might not prove more successful. But this time it does have the support of

Rashida Jones is Returning to The Office - Simply Forgot her Paper Clips? Probably Not

Rashida Jones is Returning to The Office - Simply Forgot her Paper Clips? Probably Not

This is a supremely weird time for me to talk about Rashida Jones because she is/was (see below) Karen on The Office. The reason for that is because just today I finished season two of The Office, and I am in such a Jim/Pam (Jam!) mindset. And well, their love is so squee-inducing I don’t know what to do with myself. Knowing what Karen does in the third season I was fully prepared to dislike the character. (I’ve seen a handful of episodes past season two, but not all, and certainly not enough! I am ready to see them all.) And yet, I don’t think I will. And it turns out, that’s how fans who aren’t criminally behind in their TV watching have felt.

Some fun news is that it was said by E!’s Kristin Dos Santos that Rashida will be returning to The Office this season. New episodes will begin airing on April 10th. She will be in at least one episode.  UPDATE: She may or may not be in new episodes. If she does, will it be for drama, intrigue, karaoke? I don’t know!

I think Jim wants his hair to be pet.

Rashida seems undeniably cool. She talks about the Jim/Karen/Pam love triangle with ease, seemingly surprised that not everyone hated her for getting between our beloved Jam! Of course, some fans were not so nice. (Tsk, tsk!)

In late February she told TV guide, “…I did get drunk girls going, ‘Pam is better!’ And if you seek it out on the internet - which I did - you will find something terrible about yourself! One chat-room quote I found read ‘Despite my overwhelming jealousy of Rashida Jones and my general dislike of Karen, I have to say the actress is pretty cool.’ See? Look how many stipulations I had to make it through for that person to like me!”

But we do like her! Also in February, she
