Sam and Dean Winchester vs. The Witches Ball

Supernatural

As I continue my Supernatural season one DVD marathon I find myself looking up some creepy myths online - at night - alone. The night I was writing this particular post I had just added the above picture and was about done when all of the electricity went kaput for about five minutes in the entire area (I checked outside). Creepy coincidence? You tell me. I’ll be cuddling up to a blanket and watching my cat for odd behavior.

So, what was it that I was looking up online that was getting me freaked? The Witches Ball. If you Google for ‘The Witches Ball‘ you’ll come across an overwhelming variety of different sites. Places like Salem Massachusetts have Halloween parties which are given that name. That was exactly the sort of image that was first conjured in my mind with the phrase. I was picturing people dressed in pointy witch hats and gyrating to songs like ‘I’ve Put a Spell On You’. (And nooooww you’re mine! Muah - ha - ha!)

The deeper you look, there is something else that goes by the name The Witches Ball. It is, ironically enough, an actual ball of marble which serves at a tombstone in the Myrtle Hill Road Ohio cemetery. The local Ohio lore says that it marks the grave of an ‘evil witch‘ who was buried standing straight up with the marble ball over her so she couldn’t rise from the dead. Of course, there’s a completly contradictory story about the woman buried there being the murderer of her family. That seems to be a less popular theory.

I would love to see this explored on The CW’s Supernatural sometime. As you can already see, I found some YouTube videos which use The Witches Ball as the video subject. The first one has some neat video aging effects. But it’s the second video I really want to discuss.

Is there a Conspiracy within Gossip Girl Promo Pictures?

Gossip Girl Picture

Hello my friends and welcome to EXHIBIT A! It is a promo picture for Gossip Girl. Look at them, all beautiful and perfectly coiffed. But there is something about this picture that bugs me. In fact, it tends to bug me in most every Gossip Girl promo picture I’ve ever seen!

Blair (the brunette, Leighton Meester) is never the star! Serena (Blake Lively) is always standing out in front of everyone else, even if not physically. I feel like the pictures say: Ensemble cast? What ensemble cast?! (In the book Serena and Blair are both the main female leads, unlike the show which is catering towards Serena. Ergo, my dismay!)

While this particular picture does show Blair center stage, something is still not right. Although Lively is to the side here, she’s standing out in a clean white cropped vest, with nude shoes and bright jeans that bring out her entire form. Meanwhile, Leighton Meester is in dark colors, almost blending into the fountain in the back!

Look at the picture - look! Your eye goes to the center, but then lingers to the right. Poor Jenny (Taylor Momsen) is providing a white color pull to that side, like a backdrop for Serena. I say, this just isn’t right!

Also not right? Whatever is working as Jenny’s tights. It looks like she pulled her nylons down and left them there. I never heard of that trend.

Of course, neither Blair or Serena look all that great in this picture:

Sister, Oh Sister: Cruel Gossip Girl Intentions for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Michelle Trachtenberg

Cruel Intentions vs. Gossip Girl

At a glance: The very last scene with Georgina on Gossip Girl’s season finale reminded me of the last scene with Kathryn in Cruel Intentions.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (SMG) played Buffy Summers for seven years on The WB Network. That’s not new news. Fans know that for three of those years, Michelle Trachtenberg played Dawn Summers, Buffy’s little and peskily annoying sister. By the time Trachtenberg joined, SMG had already played her role in the 1999 hit Blockbuster Cruel Intentions.

Who Amanda Seyfried Called “…the Coolest Human Being Ever”

It may be more likely a case of ‘where don’t you know her from?’ then the curious eyebrow-arched question ‘where do you know her from?’ when it comes to 22-year-old actress, Amanda Seyfried. Her acting resume includes major roles on the TV shows: Veronica Mars (Lily Kane! R.I.P), and HBO’s Big Love (playing a daughter in a polygamist household). You might have also seen her in parts on House M.D., Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. (Okay, and the soaps: All My Children or As the World Turns.) When it comes to movies, you’ve no doubt seen her using her breasts to tell the weather as the ditzy Karen Smith in Mean Girls.

With a look that I’ve heard people call ‘creepy‘, Seyfried manages to mold herself to these different (we’re talking vastly different) roles. Amazingly talented, I believe she’ll go on to rule Hollywood (with grace and style!) As Vanity Fair magazine has deemed her a promising young star, she is featured as their Vanities Girl for July ‘08.

Amanda Seyfried picture the July Vanities Girl

Excerpt from Vanity Fair: “She’s the coolest human being ever,” says Seyfried of her on-camera mom (Meryl Streep). “She didn’t treat me like I was younger. She respected me. I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

A Tribute to Sam Winchester : “Making His Nowhere Plans for Nobody”

jared-supernatural-sam-picture

I heard the song Nowhere Man by The Beatles the other night and it started me thinking about where we left off with Supernatural. We still have months to wait before we know what, for certain, is coming next. The season finale, No Rest For the Wicked, left us in a state of rueful despair. Of course, it makes for a damn fine story.

Since the show is renewed and there are really just two main actors - we can rationally assume that Dean will resurface in some capacity. Yet somehow, that doesn’t totally help. Because it’s sad. Did you see Dean? Sad! And Sam? Oh man. His heart was crushed. He had to go into this thinking Dean would be saved. Then it didn’t happen. If I were him, I’d hate the world. And then, I might decide to give the world a reason to hate me.

There is another option, though. Continued
